Johannesburg is the place to go to mix big-city culture, shopping, dining and nightlife with outdoor adventures, up-close wildlife encounters and visits to historical sites. Buns, Bowls & Sushi Rolls
We stopped by here the other day after hearing good things and we weren't disappointed. We tried 4 different items: edamame (good, nothing special), rainbow reloaded sushi rolls (very good), shanghai bowl (very good) and tempura bao (also very good). The place was packed. Service was good and prices are fair. They have many cool drinks but no alcohol. BYO is allowed with no corkage fee.

âYum Chaâ, an age old Chinese cuisine style, celebrates the unique culinary art of Dim Sum. It is this inimitable gastronomic offering which So Yum presents as a haven for friends, family and colleagues to gather in appreciation of healthy, fresh, wholeso
Asian Fusion food is one of my favourites so we had a very happy healthy lunch at So Yum. Their combinations of salads all sound wonderfully mouthwatering but we settled for the pulled duck and beetroot salad, with caramelized nuts and a mustard mayo dressing. It was well presented and appetizing and it really was delicious. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. It isn't the cheapest place to eat a salad, but they use expensive ingredients so I guess you get what you pay for.

My wife and I are very fond of Thai food and have visited quite a few. My starter of seafood soup had one prawn, one mussel, one piece of fish and one piece of calamari, the rest was mushrooms. Tasty but not enough seafood. My wife had Coconut Chicken soup which was very good with plenty chicken. My main course was Stir Fry Red Curry. The beef was tough as old boots! But it was very tasty. Side order of noodles were rubbery. My wife's Chicken Phad Thai was not up to the standard elsewhere. We were at one of only 3 tables occupied on a Saturday night at 8pm! And they claim to have been voted the best Thai restaurant in Joburg - well, all I can say is their customers must be easily pleased.

The Great Eastern Food Bar can be a bit pricey, but the food is always delicious. Sitting on the patio is the best, and the staff are friendly, but can look rather taxed at times. The dumplings are by far my favourites, but all the food is fresh and prepared in sight of customers, which can be fun. Booking essential.

The flagship of the Thai Africa Group is undoubtedly Wangthai Sandton which overlooks the prestigious Nelson Mandela Square. The most authentic Thai restaurant outside of Thailand. Wangthai Sandtonalso serves the DIY dining experience: sensational Thai Su
Weâve been to Wangthai with 5 friends. We all took a different dish, so we could taste and share the food. The friend rice was a bit plain. There was not much difference between the regular white rice and the fried rice. It was fried at the bar minimum. The chicken with cashew however was to die for. Just like the duck with honey. My friends had the green curry with chicken. Originally it was with lamb, but they changed it into chicken. Also the wok beef was very nice. The taste buds were wide open and enjoying every moment of it. In combination with the perfect South African wines from Stellenbosch... I strongly recommend this restaurant if you crave for Thai food.

The Big Mouth is a contemporary take on the classic diner infused with culinary influences and ingredients from around the globe.
At first I was put off by the extensive menu but was quickly charmed by the attentive professional staff. And then the food started coming out - everything was superb. The Peri-Peri Chicken Liver appetizer is a must as is the grilled calamari. We shard and tasted entree items from a Chicken Curry to Barramundi fish with vegetables to Lamb Chops and Salmon Poke Bowl - each was delicious The only reason Iâm not giving it 5 stars is that the food all came out too quickly. Before we could finish appetizers the entrees were arriving and it felt rushed. An interesting problem in South Africa where many restaurants are known for poor and slow service.....The place has a great vibe and is packed or a reason - they deliver good food at a great price!
