Things to do in Hood River
We stumbled into this restaurant on the main access route into Hood River. What a disappointment. The reviewer who said it is stuck in time was correct- it looks like the mediocre Asian restaurants of my youth. Worn decor, bland over-battered fried items. The service was fine and the portions enormous. Too bad we lost our appetites after a few bites.

It felt like a 1950s diner done up with a few Chinese decorations. A few people were there.Food was very average and the chow mein was the crispy type, not the soft noodle. The sweet and sour chicken had a small amount of sauce poured on the chicken itself. The menus looked very old and weatherbeaten. Good sized portions but too much of below average is still below average

Some of the best Thai food around.
We have heard about Lampoei's Thai Kitchen for years and decided to try it on a recent trip to Hood River. We got two dishes - vegetables to which we added chicken and green curry that came with vegetables. The vegetable with chicken dish had a light delicate flavor that we really enjoyed. The green curry was HOT - no flavor other than HOT - and the vegetabls were completely mushy.I had heard that the portions were big, which is certainly true, but each dish was at least 75% rice. We will continue to look for good Thai in the gorge.

I was skeptical when Wicked Sushi, Burgers and Bowls first opened in Hood River. Could they realistically prepare such a wide variety of food? Yes they can! Wicked is a favorite restaurant for many Hood River locals because there is something for everyone and everything is delicious. On our most recent visit with friends, we had the 7-Piece Nigiri Sushi with California Roll, the Unagi Bowl, the Panko-Breaded Scallop Bowl, the House Specialty Mafa Chicken Bowl and the Basic Burger (which my husband says is the best burger in Hood River). Amazing dinner! FYI, I can not resist the Ahi Poke Bowl if it is on the daily special board. The service was excellent as always. Is your group having a problem choosing a cuisine for lunch or dinner? Consider Wicked Sushi, Burgers and Bowls.

The hot soup and noodles were a welcome respite from the cold. They were perfectly spiced and hearty. We also had a lovely sushi roll with king crab, eel, and other seafood which was incredible. The rice was perfectly done. Staff were busy and attentive but we did have to wait a little longer than I thought was necessary at times for water refills. It's a small place and was very crowded and noisy so consider this if being able to talk and listen are important to your plans for the evening. One word of warning: When they say they can make a dish hot and ask you to choose a number to indicate a desired level of hotness, choose a number between 1 and 5, not 1 and 10 as they suggest. We chose 5 (sounded like a nice medium) and it was all we could handle. Unless you brush your teeth with Sriracha, you will not enjoy anything over 5!

Just outstanding food every time here! Curries-all of them, and the Pad Tai, out of this world. LOVE the charming house it's in also. Favorite place is the table on the old stair landing. Owners are the chefs and waiters...delightful people. Don't miss this one. We won't

My husband and I went during our babymoon and we loved it!!! We got the pot stickers and spring rolls, which were made fresh and were delicious. He got pho and I got the drunken noodles, which were both delicious. Notice a theme? Not only was the food delicious, the owner seemed to know almost all of the customers. He checked on us several times, served us, and was extremely welcoming. I don't know if there's a kid's menu, but they have an area for kids to play. Looking for somewhere special in Hood River? Check out Pho River!

Sushi Okalani brings a vibrant, eclectic taste and atmosphere to Hood River. We have a variety of Japanese, Hawaiian, Thai and Sushi items. Very family friendly, we have a children's menu, Happy Hour 5 days a week, and two private Tatami rooms!
I went for lunch with a friend and we were both so pleased with both the food and the service. My friend ordered tempura from the kitchen and I ordered sushi. I ended up ordering a big sushi roll (Rainbow roll I think?) which was super tasty. The service too was attentive and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant!

My wife and I enjoyed a nice dinner here recently. They offer a senior citizen special at a very reasonable price. We both chose the almond sub gum and fried shrimp. Soup and tea are also included. Excellent food. Will certainly eat here again on our next visit!
