Prior to going to Tashan Restaurant, I had to visited two other Indian Restaurants over the years. The food did not strongly resonate with me. After leaving a yoga class, I was drawn to try the food again. Deep down inside I truly wanted to experience a variety of foods in a friendly environment. I searched for places in my area and decided on Tashan after reading the reviews on Yelp. I was not disappointed to say the least. This place was what the Doctor ordered! The experience and the food at Tashan has been utterly addictive since first trying. Their food is top notch and I would use at any of my Business or Personal Events! The Chicken Curry, Basmati, Shrimp Biryani, Garlic Butter Naan, Chicken Samosas, Basmati rice, Tikka Masala, Paan Masala Ice Cream are a pleasurable sensory overload! I could name more foods but there is not enough room on this post. The food is made to order and adjusted to your spice level preference. Rajesh Sahni oversees the day to day operations and is a magnificent host who is very educated when it comes Indian Cuisine and the various areas or cultures in which it originates. The menu is more extensive than any others I have seen. Do yourself a favor and review the website for the catering options. The owner, Akshay Janjhee, is a passionate young man who is following in his father, Raja Jhanjee (Co-Owner of the Internationally Acclaimed Bukhara Grill in New Delhi and NYC). Akshay's vision presented through his umbrella company, Khyber Grill Caterers, in which Tashan Restaurant and Peshawari Grill reside under, are top of the line! As a westerner, I have and continue to grow as a person through learning new things to uplevel myself when I visit Tashan. Rajesh is phenomenal and all of the employees are super friendly. Arnav Jhajee, Akshay's Brother, is usually around also facilitating day to day operations with Rajesh. Team work makes the dream work!

Went for the first time with my wife for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. The place was recommended by friends. We started with the shrimp spring rolls. Crispy in a flavorful sauce. There were four pieces. We shared two dishes: shrimp drunken noodles and tofu Penang curry. The drunken noodles dish was delicious. Lots of large shrimp, spicy and flavorful. The Penang curry dish was also very flavorful but was not a big fan of how the tofu was cooked. The tofu lacked crunch or texture. Ample number of Tofu pieces. The dish came with jasmine rice which I drowned in the curry sauce and it was sooo good.My wife had the Thai pumpkin custard which she really liked. We brought our own wine and they were kind enough to uncork and place in an ice bucket. Service was very friendly. The prices are about $15 a dish. Well worth it. There is no doubt we will be back.TIP: BYOB

Chinese & Japanese cuisine : family owned since 1997. Casual dining for small or large groups. Family friendly, BYOB
Enjoyable atmosphere with attentive service. Wide selection of Chinese and Japanese options. Portion sizes are ample; the cold sesame noodle appetizer was quite tasty and could have been a meal in itself. Good basic dumplings and bean cake wedges. Tofu home style entree was equally generous in size, though not as flavorful.

First time here for dinner. The menu does not offer much outside of sushi and sashimi however, the sushi rolls are outstanding. They have so many unusual and innovative creations that you want to try all of them. You will find ingredients and combinations here that you won't find anywhere else. Also try the giant shrimp Tempura. For dessert, they have Moshi ice cream as well as traditional deep-fried ice cream that they serve on a bed of cocoa crispies and smothered with whipped cream and a cherry on top. All of this may not be authentic Japanese cuisine but it's a nice change to see a restaurant push the envelope and offer more than just the traditional fair that you would expect to find at every other sushi place.

We gave this place another try since our friends were raving about it. I went up to the sushi bar to ask if they had toro. They looked at me like I had two heads. This is a place to come to get mediocre rolls. I would never order sushi here. Friendly service and BYO makes this place palatable at best.Plenty of other choices for much better food.
Where to eat Italian food in Caldwell: The Best Restaurants and Bars
A small neighborhood Japanese restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. Primarily a sushi place where ingredients are always fresh tasting but also known for being one of the few restaurants in the area as offering Pan-Asian food. For appetizers, try the shrimp shumai, steamed/salted edamame or the baby octopus. The seafood miso soup is nice and spicy. In addition to the standard sushi rolls, they offer so many other special rolls that it can be overwhelming to look through all the pages on the menu but you can't really go wrong with any choice. I just went recently with the wife and kids and got appetizers, entrees and desserts and the total bill was $70. Not bad for 4 people to have 3 courses. It is BYO.

I have been coming here whenever I need to drive from East Hanover to Montclair. The staff here seem enthusiastic about giving you a good dining experience. Service is also fast. I had uni sushi (sea urchin) this time. It's market price, but it is sooooo good!
