Been patronizing this comfortable restaurant for the past few years. Having sampled sushi at several places around CT Yooki Yama offers the best, freshest sushi by far, IMHO. There is usually soft Jazz playing with soft lighting that makes for a relaxing calm atmosphere. The staff is friendly, the owner is head chef. There is a Saki tasting during the week. It does get busy on the weekends which can delay getting the best service but just relax and have another glass of wine - it's well worth the wait!!

Just opened
Upon entering Hanami II you are imediately put at ease, Its white tile and neon bluelighting is fanastic. The wait staff are genuine Japanese servers with menu knowledge and arevery patron oriented. The menu is quite complete with appetizers, hot and cold. Sushi and Sashimi, Tempura and Katsu. We went for lunch and ordered the lunch Bento Box.ShrimpTempura and Chicken Katsu. This was an amazing $8.95 each. They contain ,Miso, Salad,California rolls, Pork Dumpling,Vegetable Spring Roll, & Rice and of course either Shrimp orChicken. The meal presentation was exquisite and most delicious. Special tip they are servingwine with dinner at no cost right now in the evening. I would very much recommend this gemof a resturant.

Family of five dined here and was honestly expecting more from the reviews. Birthday dinner for kids who were excited about the hibachi experience but the chef was devoid of personality which also reflected or filtered down to the food. There is nothing that separates this restaurant from other hibachi places in the area. We have gone to 9 East a couple of times and would rate that restaurant above this one in food and experience. We like to visit new restaurants and have been looking for an alternative hibachi place to go but so far have not found one.We ordered steak, scallops, tofu and swordfish hibachi. There was nothing distinctive about the steak and scallops, with the steak being more on the chewy/rough side, whereas the tofu was actually quite good. The swordfish was not edible and tasted as if it had spoiled. The soup and salad before the hibachi was no different than other establishments and the hibachi shrimp lacked taste. The waitress was quite good, friendly and attentive whereas the chef just seemed to be going through the motions, watching the clock and lacked personality and excitement. We are used to experiences where there is interaction between hibachi chef and guests and that was not really he case here. Had the food been better we probably would have overlooked that. Our bill came to $140 for party of 5 and would have rather saved that money for another experience. But you live and learn and on to the next culinary adventure.

Visited with 2 adults and 1 child. We all ordered the lunch specials which were generous servings and included a choice of rice and soup/egg roll as a side. I had the General Tsao's chicken and my daughter has the sesame chicken. Traditional preparation - nothing crazy or exciting, just as expected.

Visited on a Saturday night. Not busy. WiFi was not working and staff didnât know why. Asked for smooth red wine and staff didnât know which red wine was smooth. Ordered Dumplings and Pad Thai. The food was really good, service was really slow considering how empty the restaurant was.Overall good value for money.

It's truly a shame when a restaurant's food itself is good, but virtually EVERY other aspect of the dining experience is horrible. From Chef Roy's brusque telephone manner, to the cheap wooden chairs, to the bad lighting, non-existent music, to feeling every running step of the charmless, loud, pushy staff on the bad floor boards as they pass, to feeling that you're being rushed because the next seating is arriving soon. It's our second meal there, we ate there a few years back, and it's just not worth the price. For 'fine dining' and these high prices, $68, you don't want to endure every other aspect of the meal. The appetizer, lobster tail, was tasty, but on the edge of rubbery, The main course of Chilean Sea Bass was delicious but on a bed of unappetizing and hard to chew asian greens (the menu lists spinach, which would have been an improvement) and the dessert of Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse was dry and grainy - with a few blueberries atop, instead of the customary whipped cream, which seemed quite cheap on the part of Chef Roy, or he just couldn't be bothered. If you read the other negative reviews here, you see a recurring theme about Chef Roy and how he runs his restaurant. We shall not be returning. The next evening we had an enchanting and superb meal at Lenny and Joe's in Westbrook. Go there for less than half the price!
