Reviews on Asian food in Asheville, North Carolina, United States. If you’re into eating locally and supporting sustainable agriculture, go to Asheville—and eat, eat, eat. This town of less than 100,000 people has 17 farmers’ markets, and the local restaurant scene is all about taking advantage of the seasonal produce sold there. And don’t miss the area’s microbreweries.

My friend had never been here, even though sheâs lived in Asheville for years, so this was an unexpected treat. Iâve eaten here before, and the food and service have always been excellent. She followed my lead, and we had pan-fried dumplings as an appetizer. Fabulous. For dinner, we chose to share two entrees: The seafood pajun is a large mouthwatering âpancake,â chock-full of seafood and fresh vegetables; itâs cut like a pizzaâwhich makes both for easy eating and easy sharing. We also had the chicken âbok umâ; this is normally prepared on the traditional Korean tabletop grills, but we had ours made in the kitchen because one needs to be ordering several tabletop-grilled dishes to have it prepared in the dining room. We are both hearty eaters, and we were happy and full at the end of the meal.Korean house has a nice wine selection, and we ordered from it to make our meal even more pleasant.Of note, they have an absolutely wonderful lunch buffet. If you havenât tried it, I suggest you make an effort to do so.

We live in Asheville and Wasabi is one of our favorite restaurants (and thatâs saying a lot in Asheville). Sushi is always fresh, lots of unique rolls, and their open-air patio is a great way to people watch. The owner and staff always make us feel welcome.

Gan Shan recently changed it's menu. They opened the West Asheville location and the one on Charlotte Street is only serving dinner now. We decided to go give it a try. We were SO disappointed!!! We ordered the black bean chicken thinking it would be similar to the old black bean chicken rice dish. Nope. It had half the amount of chicken, boring white rice and some noodle things mixed in. The plate was supposed to be for dinner, but half the amount of food as the former lunch portion. The chicken itself was tasty, but the rest was a bust. Bland and uninteresting. They removed the spicy red sauce from the tables. We also had imperial rolls for an appetizer. They were awesome. We also love their ginger tea. For the money, it was very disappointing. The portions were ridiculously small for dinner. 16 bucks for a small plate is outrageous, even in Asheville. I would be hesitant to return to try other things. I will say they were very gracious and brought us a free appetizer when we voiced our discontent. I have mixed feelings about this place now. Can't say if we will try the one in West Asheville or not.I'm disappointed to hear that you didn't like our menu changes. Certainly, we will take your feedback into account and have a good look at the portion size of our dishes. The Som Tam (green papaya salad) with black bean chicken dish that you had is a departure from our previous lunch time rice bowl dishes and I understand the disappointment when expecting one thing and getting another. I'd like to invite you back in for a dinner for two on me so that we can show you what we're really capable of and turn around your experience. Please email us so we can set something up. [email protected]. Thank you for your feedback, we're constantly looking to improve.
