A great find. Hard to find truly Asian food in france but we had a great meal and thoroughly enjoyed the flavours . The service was a bit slow but that is what you come to expect in France, very friendly though. We will return.

we did not know that it was a Japanese style restaurant. The restaurant has a good, stylish andclean interiour. There is enough choice on teh menu. We had some different Japanese style dishes and all of them were very nice. The price is very good for the quality wich they served. very well located in the center of angouleme

Very friendly. Good home made food (they cater for the French taste so if you like your food spicy, you eill need to ask). Service is a bit on the slow side as business is new (only 7 months). But very attentive. Young couple run the restaurant themselves. Ambience is lacking and it would be good if they focused on working to improve the furnishings and decor with time.. Home cooking, home to home environment. We had lunch....filling and very relaxed.

We chose this restaurant, based on its good reviews and were somewhat disappointed. First, they didn't have our reservation, never a good start. The service was slow but hectic, as they were understaffed (admittedly a few days before closing for summer vacation). We had an assortment of raviolis, spring rolls and a Chinese noodle and beef dish. All were OK but rather bland. There was no hot sauce offered. The price was right, but that was about it. Not a place I'd return to.

Wow, A La Cantonaise - what a wonderful find.I visited this restaurant back in September along with my husband, 12 month old daughter and in-laws. We had spent the afternoon in Cognac but decided to stop in Angouleme on the way home to find an evening meal. After wandering the many streets of Angouleme in the early evening we found A La Cantonaise. My Father-in-Law had seen this restaurant on Trip Advisor days before and was impressed by the reviews so we decided to give it a go. We weren't disappointed.Situated in one of Angouleme's narrow cobbled streets and surrounded by other eateries and bars is this wonderful - albeit super tiny Chinese restaurant. We hadn't booked a table, although we turned up literally as they opened the doors at 7pm. As we had our daughter in her pushchair I was genuinely concerned we would not all be able to squeeze in, but the lovely lady behind the counter showed us to a table by the window. (I'm not going to lie, it was a tight fit!)We were given English menus and ordered drinks. I opted for a pineapple juice which was imported from Asia and came in a small can - it was okay, but didn't taste like fresh pineapple juice.I was super excited about the menu - it's not huge but it has some different dishes on it. For my starter I ordered 'Fried Starters Mix: Spring Rolls, Vegan Tempura, Fried Dumpling.' This is one of the dishes on the menu that is available as either meat or vegetarian. As a vegetarian I was pleased they offered this option. It was the tastiest Chinese starter I've ever had! The batter was so light and crispy and it was all super delicious! It was also a large starter. For my main course I ordered 'Fried Rice with Vegetables.' This came served in a large black cast iron pot. The portion size was great and it was so delicious! The vegetables were chunky and the rice was cooked to perfection. It had an Indian flavour to it as well I thought. Such a good choice! As the evening went on more and more people were turning up at the restaurant - some had booked, some hadn't and they did their best to squeeze everybody in. The restaurant became full pretty much straight after it opened - largely due to the fact it only seats approximately 30 people and is clearly a very popular choice!A couple of people did end up sitting outside but luckily it was a pleasant, sunny day.Overall I can't recommend A La Cantonaise highly enough! Everything about this super tiny Chinese restaurant is fabulous. The food was incredible - the best Chinese food I've ever had. Nothing was greasy, everything was freshly made and tasted wonderful. The restaurant is modern, super clean and very tidy. The staff were accommodating and very friendly - especially the waiter, who at the end of the meal opened up another door right by our window table so that we could get our daughter's pushchair out easily.Booking is essential to avoid disappointment, unless you turn up as soon as they open.Highly recommended.
