Things to do in Las Grutas
Consigliato.

Despite Malala being the top rated restaurant in Las Grutas we did not expect a meal of the quality we received. Like in most places in Las Grutas people here have very limited English so with our rudimentary Spanish knowledge we did not manage to negotiate our way out of a nine course meal of "small" portions. As it turned out this was the best choice. The meal consisted of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts all in "taster portions", each of which would have passed for a full portion. The starters were a salad in a cheese basket, Argentinean spring roll and breaded king prawns, the mains were gnocchi with a tomato mushroom sauce, langostine risotto and a mini steak hugosso in a pepper sauce with papas. As deserts they served a chocolate mousse, a strawberry sponge and lemon sorbet in a sweet pastry basket. All dishes tasted fabulous and were presented with lots of attention to detail and creativity. A standard of cooking which you find in very few restaurants. Unlike most of these restaurants though the portions were very generous and we hardly managed to finish and only did this because the food was too good to waste. The service was also excellent despite the language difficulties. For a meal like this in Europe you would pay at least close to a 3 figure sum per person, here we paid roughly 60⬠for both of us. Important to know is that the meal lasted almost 3 hours. For everybody who wants to have an excellent, high class meal for great value for money this is the place to go.

I live in Bariloche and Alberto's steak houses are rightly famous but this Pasta restaurant was awful. We were the first in. The manageress/waitress was on the phone on what was obviously a private call in a very loud voice - it went on and on. No music, no atmosphere to speak of, and my plate of spinach, corn and ricotta cheese cannelone with salsa rosa was awful. The pasta was thick and the filling borderline "off". It had been heated in the microwave and was cold in the middle and the pasta had stuck to the bottom of the plate. I picked at it a bit and left it. Go elsewhere for pasta...

Not expensive compared to Mickey D's. Craft burger made with ground sirloin, homemade bread, choice of sweet potato fries or potato. The Gulosa comes with bacon, cheese, fried egg, onion rings, and two sirloin patties, and cheddar cheese. The service was great, but we go out early compared to most folks in Argentina. Oh yeah, they have their own line of craft beer. I love Porters, as every craft beer place in town offers porter, IPA, APA, pales, and a golden or red. My boys split a burger and both got full. Good value and yummy food.Hey! Thanks for visiting us and writing this wonderful review, hope you ended you guys had a nice end of your trip! Cheers

Arrived in Las Grutas offseason Sunday night. Basically all restaurants were closed or still not yet open for the season. By chance we passed by Del Azul which was not open yet. However the owner/chef offered to serve us 1 hour ahead of the regular opening hours. We were up for a real treat. The chef put together a tasting menu for us. Sashimi of white salmon (a kind of bass) and other seafood delicacies, all caught just hours before. Followed by delicious lamb. The meal ended with a freshly baked apple-crumble with vanilla icecream. Wines came from the region and were wonderful. To our surprise this gourmet dinner was very reasonably priced. One of the best meals (if not THE best) we had during our time in Argentina. The owner did a great job creating this place.
