Washington is a town in and the county seat of Rappahannock County, Virginia, United States. The site of this town was surveyed by George Washington himself in July 1749. It was the first of what would be many American places to be named after the future first president. Its population was just 135 people at the 2010 census, down from 183 in the 2000 census. It is nicknamed Little Washington to avoid confusion because of its proximity to Washington, D.C., which lies only 70 miles (110 km) to the north east.

Griffin Tavern is a lovely 1870's building that was renovated into the restaurant/bar in 2002. We are located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains in beautiful Rappahannock County. Our bar is configured for socializing. We are where the locals han
Had a quick and enjoyable lunch this past week; a gallery owner in Little Washington directed us to Flint Hill to enjoy Griffin's. Lovely drive over and lively atmosphere when we arrived. Sat in the bar and ordered a Bloody Mary. I immediately recognized the style and loved the Jeff MacNelly sketches throughout the bar; I remember him as the Richmond Times-Dispatch editorial cartoonist when I was growing up in Richmond. Would love to understand the connection with Rappahannock County. I got the chicken salad; my husband got the quiche (real men do eat quiche). Both were good and we were thoroughly entertained by the most loyal of frequent bar guests retrieving their personalized and stored mugs, carrying them to the bar to be filled. Hilarious and such a great idea! No swanky country club can compete with that special distinction of having your own mug labeled in the bar! Awesome!

As a birthday present to myself I made reservations for friends to join me and my husband for a midweek getaway to try 3 Blacksmiths based on the Postâs Dining Guide. It was a perfect meal â elegant, delicious, surprising â perfectly prepared and perfectly delivered by the chefs and owners themselves. Probably the best meal we have ever had in a restaurant (which is saying a lot because weâve been dining out for many decades). John and Dianeâs love for what they create is evident in every detail and infuses the whole experience. Already planning our return next year.

I have been enjoying breakfasts and lunches at the Cafe for years. The breakfasts are serious country style âempower the dayâ repasts. The lunches offer awesome salads and wonderful fresh deli subs and sandwiches. Stop by and partake and you will be back.

A Little Washington favorite among locals and visitors alike, Tulaâs Restaurant and Bar is an Open Table Dinersâ Choice Winner. Tulaâs dishes are created with a Southern American influence, featuring daily fresh oysters on the half shell and fresh seafood
Imagine this: you've been hiking in Shenandoah National Park for a couple of days and now you're on the way home. You're hot. It's hot outside. It's way past time for lunch. A vintner recommends Tula. You walk in and are greeted warmly. It's okay that you've got on your hiking boots and shorts even though the next table is filled with five nicely dressed people. The menu is short and sweet and filled with tempting items, but then you learn that there's a tomato cobbler special. You can have it savory or you can have it sweet for dessert. Tomato cobbler? Yep. The perfect July food. Tomatoes fresh from the garden. Goat cheese. Balsamic vinegar. And a perfect -- not too thick, not to thin -- crust. Delicious. If only Tula were in my neighborhood.

There is probably not much more one can say about The Inn. It has truly earned a Michelin 3 start rating. This is a bona fide French 3 stars not the Americanized version. Having spent many years in Paris and having eaten at a number of Michelin starred restaurants, I think I can say that The Inn is legitimately at that level. From the 14k bottle cave to the exquisite menu and the delightful and attentive service, The Inn truly is worthy. This is a special occasion restaurant, there is no doubt about that. Pair it with a night at the Inn and youâll have a wonderful and memorable celebration. We did.

Food is 5 star. The chef is outstanding and presents each course in a beautiful arrangement. You just can't go wrong eating at the restaurant for dinner rather than eating at other establishments in town!
