Things to do in Washington Island
My husband and I were traveling with a group of seniors, touring Washington Island with Dick from the Cherry Train. We had a wonderful tour and this was our lunch stop. Our picnic lunch was preordered and consisted of a chicken salad croissant, vegetable soup and cherry pie. The beef vegetable soup was deliciously homemade (and I am not a fan of restaurant soup). However, I make this same kind of soup and recognized that it was made with oxtails. Out of this world! I was not especially fond of the chicken salad which tasted like it was store bought or made from canned chicken breast (not a problem but I also make my own homemade chicken salad on a croissant and this could not measure up) Cannot say anything about the pie because I don't eat desserts. All in all, it was a nice stop. Coffee was the best I tasted in years! Outside is a wonderful seating area but it was too cold for that on this day. Most people in our group thought the food was very good.

The Holiday Inn offers two seatings for the Friday nite fish fry so make sure you get your reservations in. End the meal with a slice of delicious pie! Popular island destination with a grand lake front view. Don't forget to take home a bottle of locally made maple syrup.

Upsides: We basically had the farm to ourselves! We had our own patio and could wander on most of the farm.Washington island has the same darkness ratings as certified dark sky parks so the night sky was amazing. It was so peaceful and beautiful. Val and her family made us feel welcome and like guests. She let us know that we were welcome to join the family bonfires. She provided us with a croquet set and a telescope (which unfortunately didn't work). The son recommended an amazing beach that is open to the public that most tourist don't know about - so we had our own private beach for about 2 hours!Any issues (like the missing microwave) we had were addressed same day. The bed was super comfortable.Downsides: The dishwasher was broken. There were only 5 DVDs to watch. There was no one on sight most of the time, but someone was there at least once a day. The apartment was last updated in the 80s, but it was clean and functional.Overall, we had a great time and would gladly recommend this place. The food at the restaurant was good. The kayak museum was cool and quirky. This place is the perfect fit for people who want to enjoy having a cottage on the island without all the upkeep.People who want the experience of staying in a Hilton should stay in a Hilton.

If you'd like to experience a classic Northwoods bar, this is the place for you. Wood paneled, beer signs, u-shaped bar and tables across from it, everything is deep fried and this is where the locals hang. We stopped in to find and try some Death's Door vodka, a local product, of which we'd heard, have a little lunch and a brew.Yes, Tim, the bartender/owner, is what we would call a character down home. He takes a little getting used to but proved to be friendly and helpful when approached with kindness and respect. The man has a VERY wry sense of humor - go with it for best results. He did right by me on Death's Door by sending me across the street to Mann's Grocery - the closest thing I've seen to a real 'general store' in many, many years.

We were informed that the owner of this place is the last of the fishermen in Washington Island. We had lunch there, they had fresh fish, although we were looking forward to tasting the lawyer fish, unfortunately, it was not the time if the year that this kind of fish is available. Food was okay, nothing spectacular.

*** Closed for the season - re-opening May 24, 2019 *** This is a little restaurant at the marina on Washington Island, WI. They have great food and top notch service. I found it this summer. You should include them in your reviews so more people can try
Four of us had dinner at Sailers pub last week. The food was excellent as was the service. tMy wife has a food allergy, Kimberly, our waitress was on top of everything! The food allergy, making food and wine suggestions, Kimberly could write the book on service! Only one suggestion, the cherry duck was tasty but would have been improved with wild rice. We will definitely return and will request Kimberly!

Every year I go thinking somehow it will be better...after waiting for 30 min to order a cappuccino and latte, Iâve decided Iâm not going back. I donât need fast (city) service when Iâm visiting the island. What I need is an efficiently run coffee/bakeshop/cafe. And please smile....or at least say, sorry for the massively long line you just had to wait in. For the record, Iâve never gone on the weekend. Only weekdays in mid August when the crowds are lower

We didn't expect such fine quality on the island. Wow! The chef is over the top great! Both of our meals were perfect, and plated wonderfully. The dining room feels so elegant and the service was perfect. A definite gourmet evening! Thank you!
