We're generally frequent other chicken joints, but we're travelling through town and this Golden Chick was so convenient. We would give this GC 4 stars due to the above average chicken tenders and fries. However, the extra star comes because of the extra service from the manager. I wish I could remember her name, but it escapes me. She was all over the joint, changing the marquee sign out front, delivering food to customers at tables, and taking orders. She was polished, and the place was so efficient and clean. She even took the extra step to bring our Sonbun a complimentary apple juice. A combination of above average food and excellent service allows me to give a rare-for-me 5-star rating.

We found this establishment clean and staffed with very friendly people. This restaurant has a open grill, providing grilled specialties that are available and of your choosing. I/we have patronized this establishment on a number of occasions without disappointment and will continue intermittent visits/patronizing this restaurant.
Plowman's Kitchen is in the old Taylor Highschool band hall. All of these buildings have been revitalized with new life. A few hundred yards away, the main high school building now houses a taproom called "The Loose Screw."We decided to visit the Plowman's for brunch. It was such a beautiful morning after a stormy night, and I decided to walk the dog there. Upon arrival, the hostess promptly greeted me, and I asked if it was possible to sit outside. She said since they were newly opened, they didn't have waitstaff to cover the outside tables yet, and then very quickly reversed course and said looked "It's ok. We will make it work.". Apparently, it looked like a good idea because two other parties asked to sit outside as well (Sorry/not sorry if it started a thing, it's a great patio!). Kudos for going the extra mile and letting us enjoy the nice morning with our dog! We did promise to be low maintenance and not need much. It didn't matter; the service was attentive and spot on. My GF had the salmon croquettes. Not to say they were good, but she would take a bite and then tell me again how good they were. I think she even posted pics of the food (she never does this, so it must have been tasty). I had the breakfast buffet. Everything was delicious, but what stood out the most were the grits, thick slices of bacon and ham. Best of all, they brought our Aussie a bowl of whipped cream. This is a great place to have dinner and then stroll across the old school campus to then visit "The Loose Screw" for a few tasty cold beers and some live music. You don't even have to worry about getting caught and going to detention!Great service, great attitudes, fantastic food, and fair prices - we will be back.

GREAT Food! Wish we had a Golden Chick in Rockport. But since we don't...I try to go to "Uncle Tony's Golden Chick" when I'm in Taylor. Wish I had some RIGHT NOW!

We were in town competing with our horses at the Williamson County Expo Center. We came here for dinner. The food, and service were beyond horrible. And certainly DO NO order the wines! We all pretty much just left the majority of our food/drinks on the table, paid our bill, and left. Absolutely low quality, of all, across the board. OH, and absolutely filthy! There was food all over the floors, while the wait staff sat around and just visited with each other. Never to return.
Service always friendly...Dave always does great job on the grill..I usually get the cheeseburger..And I might suggest the Mexican Hot Dog..grilled Elgin sausage with cheese onion and jalapeno in a flour tortilla..I always grab at least one for Breffest the next day!! Yes Breffest!! They will know who told you..

Met friends here. I wow! This had got to be one of the very best places for bbq. Ribs, brisket, sliced and chopped, were amazing. What a great place to meet friends. Games, cold drinks, both alcoholic and non alcoholic are served ice cold. The green beans, Cole slaw, potato salad, always good sides with bbq, are cooked just right. Nice down home, comfy, relaxed atmosphere.

I saw this place profiled on TV so on my next trip to Taylor I had to stop. It is fantastic. A true personal touch place off the beaten path. The Bbq is amazing. Just a real friendly setting with a steady group of patrons. The sides....beans, Cole slaw, potato salad can't be beat. A true hidden gem.

Prices have gone up this year and quality is down some. Usually, I believe a good quality chicken-fried-steak is well worth $14.00. That would be in a table-service restaurant with china and silverware. Plasticware and self-service should reduce that markedly. I have to say the entire restaurant smelled of old fish. The salad came out with the steak and potatoes making my steak and fries cold and soggy after the appetizer course. That takes-off more points from the overall experience. Taylor needs quality service and smiling ambassadors to grow a modern downtown. I hope Lucky Duck can get back on track, perhaps add table service, or cut their prices to something between 7.99 to 9.99.Dear Ray P., I am so sorry you were disappointed with our price point and quality. We work hard to keep our prices as low as possible but sometimes when there is movement in the market - both grocery and labor - prices increases are necessary. The labor market is very tight in Taylor for the positions that we have available and we continually strive to hire quality employees that will be positive Ambassadors of both Lucky Duck and the Taylor community. We work hard to train those team members to meet our standards of quality and customer service. Again my apologies that we did not meet your standards for quality and price point on your last visit. If there is something our team can do to make your visit more pleasant - within our counter service format - please do not hesitate to ask. We try to be accommodating when possible (example - bring your salad out first). I hope that our quality customer service, clean facility, hometown friendly atmosphere and diverse menu will bring you back to give us another try.

Well established smokehouse. Brisket is the best. Beef ribs are the best. Pork ribs were excellent. Sides were pretty good, which is unusual for a smokehouse. It is pricey, $25 a pound.
