Went with friends to this pub on a Friday night upon their recommendation that the fish and chips were excellent. Not only did the halibut prove to be very delicious (not overcooked or covered in an overly thick batter to make it appear as a larger piece of fish than it truly is, as often happens in other restaurants) but it was all you can that evening. I managed two pieces because I started with a bowl of butternut bacon soup. Not only was the soup excellent as well, but the size of the bowl made it almost a meal in itself. Given the reasonable prices charged for both it was well worth the drive from London. We were somewhat puzzled that even though it was a Friday evening, not only was the lower dining level closed, but the main level only had about 5 tables occupied. Perhaps that is a small town Friday phenomenon or there was some other attraction elsewhere that night. Had that been all there was to it, I would have given this eating establishment 5 stars. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. It took at least 10 minutes to get our drinks. We then waited at least another 15 minutes before our server returned to take our food orders. Then we waited almost 20 minutes for our food to arrive. During this entire time, despite walking past our table numerous times, our server failed to provide napkins or dining utensils. We had to ask for spoons when the soup arrived and then for knives and forks when the fish arrived. Given the small number of customers in the place that night there was no excuse for this oversight. Likewise, we were not asked if we wanted another drink - the bar's loss. We have no idea whether it is the incompetence of the server or the failure of the owner to properly train the server. Perhaps that is the reason why only 5 tables were occupied on a Friday night. If the establishment steps up its game in the serving department there is no doubt in my mind that it will be swamped with customers given the delicious food and the reasonable prices.

To whom it may concern;Myself and my wife stopped at a local subway in St Mary's and we had a horrible experience. My wife asked for lots of olives 'she loves olives' and the woman behind the counter who's name is 'Sharon' only gave her 4 olives and a horrible look, when my wife asked for more she gave her an extremely dirty look and proclaimed that she could only give her 4 olives if the subway 'inspector' was in she could lose her job. We almost just walked out but we didn't and tried to pay and just leave. My wife had presented a coupon for a free cookie that she had received for responding to a subway survey two months ago. 'Sharon' behind the counter began to ask her more than 10 questions about the coupon for example; where did you get this? how many of these have you used? Have you ever been refused service at a subway for passing off fake coupons? Frankly speaking even as a law enforcement officer in the London police services, I found these questions to be borderline harassment she just wouldn't stop with the dirty looks, and the judgement. She then refused to accept the coupon claiming that the subway she worked for was not a participating subway I was dumbfounded!!!! I have been to subway in over ten different countries and never received such horrible service.I will not return!!!!!Chris

This is the type of place that you're always looking for but it seems they always are harder to find. Just a typical old time diner with good service, simple decor and good food. Great selection on the menu and reasonable prices in today's world. We enjoyed a steak sandwich with fries and chicken wraps with onion rings and ice cold draft beer. Everything was very tasty. We will remember this place and stop in again when in the area.

We were there for lunch. We were seated quickly by a pleasant server. Service was quick and friendly. The clubhouse and fries was outstanding. Also the full breakfast was excellent. Peices were quite reasonable. I'd eat here again in a minute. Highly recommend this diner!!
