Chef Shawn Hayes, owner and chef of the Blue Ridge Cafe, has a real passion for food and creativity. He believes that good food, well prepared and offered at a reasonable price keeps his customers coming back. And, it's true! Virginians and travelers have
We stopped here on our way south and had a very good lunch. There is a nice selection of sandwiches and salads for everyone. The Blue Ridge Club is large with ham, turkey, bacon, cheese and lettuce and tomato. You may have trouble biting it since is stacked high. The Monte Cristo is very good - ham and melted cheese in a sandwich dipped in batter and sauteed. The batter was golden brown. Drinks get refills.

We were looking for a breakfast stop outside of Charlottesville and happened upon Jackâs Kitchen. Itâs in an old antique store and charming. You walk in, order, get your drinks and find a table. A few minutes later your order is delivered. We started with sharing a cinnamon bun served in a bowl with cream cheese topping on the side. Very unique and delicious. I had a omelet which was huge and tasty. My husband had the farmers breakfast and enjoyed it. If you are antiquing in the area or just driving on Rt. 29 in Ruckersville and need breakfast or lunch itâs a nice place to stop. We will definitely stop again when in the area.

We were visiting with family and didnât want to cook. We decided to order take out to solve our desire to eat at home and continue our visit. The order was placed over the phone and the interaction was suspect to begin with. A couple of question about food options was met with a bored answer of I donât know, I have not tried it. Undaunted another question about another entree and the same bored response. The food was average and the price was right. Upon arrival the order was tossed (literally) in bags with small containers all askew. Some side ways other upside down. We asked for another bag as she walked away to no avail. We waited and asked again and she placed it on the counter and walked away. A two rating would be generous. Average food, poor customer service. This employee who is the âfaceâ of the business doesnât invite a return visit.

Though I've eaten here several times, I find myself wondering why. Just yesterday, the place was filthy. Two different workers entered the dining area while I was there, but neither one did anything more than give the place a cursory glance. The drink station was spattered with various types of soda, the floor had lots of food particles in numerous areas and it was hard to find a table that was notably clean. When I first approached the counter it took several long minutes for anyone to acknowledge my presence, and when they did, it was only to tell me that someone would be with me soon. When my order was finally placed, I had to ask for a cup in order to make my drink while I waited. Then when my food was ready, I had to ask several times before someone would give me butter and honey for my biscuit.Sitting at a table to dine would have been pleasant enough (as the place wasn't busy), except for all the food particles on the tables and floor nearby. Yuck. The chicken tenders were smaller than expected and a bit overcooked. Fortunately the FLG sauce made them tolerable. The biscuit was enjoyable with butter and honey spread and the potato wedges were excellent (crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, flavorful AND plentiful) ... THEY were the highlight of this visit.
