Some places have been there for so long, that no matter who owns them or what they do to the place, it is an institution in its own right. That's the Hideaway! It was about Halfway between Alpena and Rogers City. The sign over the north door reads Rogers City. The sign over the South door reads Alpena. Back when I was a little skeezer, there was a Sunken Dance Floor, and along the railing protecting patrons from falling into it, was a wonderful old shuffleboard table. The Real thing! As you stepped down to the dance floor, there on the floor was a shiny silver dollar. Many's the patron that stooped down to pick up that coin. But it would not be picked up. It was bolted through the floor. D'ya see what I mean when I say it's an institution in its own right?

If you want a truly great sit down meal in Presque Isle/Grand Lake then this is the place. Brand new and with wonderful service, a simple but sumptuous menu, and a truly stunning view of Grand Lake. Complete with docs for boaters, and an Ice Cream shed so after your dinner you can take the cones out on the boat and enjoy a sunrise. They also have a great store AND they are planning to be YEAR AROUND!!! Great people, great service, and great food!!!

Very friendly staff, good food, no frills atmosphere (typical up north - don't be scared - ha!)I ordered one of the specials - chicken nachos - nacho chips are hand made (awesome) and topped with the usual toppings. Other party members ordered chicken quesadillas (really large portion and good), the open face hot beef sandwich (order this if it's up your alley - huge portion with homemade mashed potatoes and gravy), and the prime rib sandwich - large sandwich with good meat and bread (although bread was a little soggy, not sure why) Heard they have a salad bar on the weekends.

Woody's Grand Lake and Sand Bay Trading Company is a new establishment. Sand Bay Trading Company is a convince store which also sells sandwiches, wraps or croissants. Woody's Grand Lake is a sit down restaurant at Grand Lake. Great view. Menu includes Starters, Burgers, Salads, and Flatbread Pizzas. Woody's also has a Little Minnows (kid's menu).

Eggs were fine, hash browns generous, coffee hot. Whatâs not to like? The waffles, thatâs what. They had an awful sour aftertaste and were inedible. Beware. The hash comes out of a can, but it seems to have a following anyway.

Everything we had both nights was very good. Steak, seafood, pasta primavera, chicken parm. The view is outstanding. Sure there are not a lot of options, but this place exceeded my expectations for such a small town we dined twice in a weekend. Priced a little on the higher side, though the experience and consistent food quality was worth it in my opinion.
