Met my friend for breakfast. Took a long time for wait person to take our orders. Ordered the "Farmer" breakfast which was a spinach frittata, sausage and potatoes. Waited for another very long time - had to ask twice where food was. When finally served, I took one bite of everything and wouldn't/couldn't eat any more because all was overcooked and dry. The sausage was almost burnt. My friend had the same experience. When we brought this up, they gave us a whopping 10% off. Really? When I also mentioned to hostess as we were leaving, she said they received a sub batch of meat from their distributor and then she shrugged. Again, really? No apologies, no nothing. Why would they even serve it if it was substandard? And they were expensive. Not going back there.

We stopped here for breakfast. It's right on the road so convenient. The gentleman serving us was very personable anf friendly, giving us some interesting history about Drytown. Also, outside our window were several birdhouses with babies. So fun to watch them!Service was good but also we were patient. The pancakes were delicious and the sausage patty was really good. The. Omelettes were just okay. We would give it another try.

By our best estimates this year was the 14th year we have returned to the Imperial Hotel. It all started when our daughter enrolled at the University of the Pacific in Stockton and we decided we preferred to stay in Amador County wine country rather than Stockton while visiting her. That daughter, her younger sister, their significant others and some of their friends, plus a few of our friends, managed to occupy all 9 of the rooms including the three large suites across the street. Most years we can only fill the six rooms in the hotel but our annual trek each spring has become so popular that we outdid ourselves this year. Of course I am biased. I love old hotels. The creaky floor boards are music to my ears. Sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine overlooking Route 49, listening to the chirping frogs, hearing the cries of the hawks in the sky, the occasional warbling of wild turkeys are all so peaceful. Some people want to fall asleep to waves crashing on the beach. I will take gurgling creeks and frogs any day. Over the years I have concluded that this hotel is not for everyone. There is no elevator. There is no phone. There is no TV. But there is hot coffee in the hallway every morning at 7:00 am and a hot breakfast served each day like a B&B. Frankly I just as soon keep this place to myself. It is a great launching off point for visiting the local wineries and for getting to Sutter Creek and to Plymouth for its variety of restaurants. As this area increases in popularity I am sure new hotels and B&B's will open. Regardless of that "progress", we will be here. There is a reason why every year we come back.

Plymouth is a charming little town. We stopped in for lunch on Christmas Eve. The place was decorated with Santa hat chair covers on each and every chair. It was stinking cute! The waitstaff were delightful & the food was homemade & good. During lunch Santa came into the restaurant; visiting each table & giving each customer a candy cane. My husband got to buy Santa a rum & Coke, which he thought was awesome!

Marlene & Glen's Diner

Marlene & Glen's Diner, featuring an almost unlimited menu of homemade comfort food for breakfast and lunch. With a full bar and family atmosphere, Marlene & Glen’s is the best place to start a tour of the wine country or foothill adventure!

The lively and irreverant fun at Marlene and Glen's Diner is apparent when you check out the "Dead Fly Cafe" logo on the coffee cups with a sardonic (presumably Glen) chef figure above with crossed spatulas. The breakfast menu is extensive, the portions large, and the quality very good for all the breakfast plates served to our large group. Service is also very good with coffee warmers constantly coming. It is not inexpensive, a breakfast check for 2 with tip runs about $30 with beverage, but it is well worth it. Highly recommended fun!

We visited Beth Sogaard's Amador Vintage Market for a late (5:00 PM!) lunch. They have an wide selection of salads, sandwiches, beverages and deserts; we split the grilled ham and cheese sandwich and vintner's salad followed by gelato. Everything was excellent and reasonably priced. They also have many local wines and interesting accessories.
