Old-fashioned Texas BBQ, home-made bread, cobbler, side orders, iced tea brewed fresh daily, down-home atmosphere, indoor/outdoor dining, free wi-fi.
Hadn't I read the reviews it would have never occured to us to visit this restaurant. This Mom&Pop Place offers a choice of meats with sides such as coleslaw, beans etc. All is home made and the brisket is as tender as it can get. Their published opening hours say it all: "11am until sold out" - sold out they were when we left.If you are in the vicinity and crave for meat, stop by.

My husband and I arrived in Ozona hungry and ready to eat. Fortunately, weâd already researched The Cafe Next Door and conveniently, the cafe was across the street from out hotel. For starters, we ordered the Salsa & Chips and Fried Pickles. I am an avid lover of both appetizers, and neither let me down. The Fried Pickles were crisp, sour and super tasty with a nice sprinkling of what looked like Tonyâs. The salsa was freshly made and the type that simmers on the stove for hours. The chips were warm and crisp.I got the Texan with Cheese (hamburger with cheese) and it didnât disappoint. The bun was toasted and topped with melted butter, the burger was juicy but not overly so, and I had the pick of fresh toppings to put on my burger (lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles). You get a side dish with all entrees, and while I chose soup of the day (chicken tortilla), the kitchen sent me French fries. My husband asked for my soup as the kitchen got the side wrong, and the server happily brought my cup of soup. It was delicious! (No extra charge for the soup, either.)My husband ordered the Patty Melt with fries. I had a bite and it was ooey-gooey cheesy delicious! Perfectly toasted and cooked with a yummy rye bread that offset the meat and cheese delight tucked into the heart of the sammie. The drink menu doesnât offer too much if you donât drink sodas and iced tea, but it was exactly what you would expect from a small town cafe. In the spirit of small town Texas, we ordered two iced teas, no sugar. I think this surprised the waitress as I am thinking most people are hankering to suck down a sweet tea. I especially am pretty weird, so Iâve been told, because I didnât grow up drinking iced tea.The cafe is clean, has cute decor, and is one of those great places you stumble upon (or research, as we did) when you come through Ozona. Donât miss this little gem as you will certainly be pleased. Good food, good service, and a nice atmosphere. Thanks for a lovely little dinner! We definitely will be back. We were eyeing the pies and cakes as we waited for our check, which looked simply marvelous.

Great service!! They chatted with us like we weren't even strangers. Amazing food!!! I'm a person that doesn't like fries, but tonight I almost ate my whole family's fries. Things are pretty large including the chicken fried steak. But everything is so amazing our table was silent because everyone was didn't want to stop eating to talk. Even historic!! The outside may not look the greatest but there is so much history behind it. The way its built and has been kept, there are still historic things to learn about this place. Trust me, The Hitchin Post was the best food on my 8 day trip I took.
