Hackney's opened in 1939 in Glenview, Illinois. We are famous for our Hackney Burger served on our house made Dark Rye and our Original French Fried Onions. We are still owned and operated by the same family that opened Hackney's 80 years ago!
The food and atmosphere are on par with the Hackney's on Lake. Usually the service is good too, but on our most recent visit the wait staff went MIA so often I felt like I needed to tackle one of them just to get their attention (flailing my arms like a quarterback signalling a touch-down worked at the last minute.) There were only 2-3 tables with patrons in our section so it's not like they were over-loaded with customers.Hopefully next time the wait staff will be back up to speed.

We stopped at The Howard Street Inn because it was Tueday, which meant their sloppy Joe special, though when we arrived, we realized that they were celebrating Fat Tuesday. The parking lot was full and the restaurant and bar were full, though there was a good turnover. We waited about ten minutes, but it was worth it. Our server came to the table and took our drink order. When she brought back the "Hurricane", we ordered. The first entree was the sloppy Joe special which includes mac and cheese with two decent-sized sloppy Joe sandwiches. We also ordered the tuna stuffed avocado. We were a bit disappointed with that, however, as it seemed like there should have been a little more avocado, but it was tasty. As we neared the end of our meal, the owner brought two complimentary paczki to our table - one blueberry and one raspberry which were from Oak Mill Bakery. A great way to end the evening. The price was really good for what we had and we did have some food to take home. Our server, Christina, was very personable, efficient and she was very busy.

Step back in time 60 years to when going out for dinner meant something really special. From the decor to the jazz music, Wildfire has the style and warmth that makes it perfect for celebrating with friends or a quiet evening for two. The extensive menu f
Wildfire's website says that their dining experience is meant to feel special. This is evident in the classy atmosphere of the restaurant as well as in the incredible quality of the food!Appetizers:The goat cheese and pesto pizza is really special! Complemented by mushrooms and arugula, it is flavorful with a thin crust. It comes out piping hot from a 600 degree oven.Entrees:The open-faced Mediterranean salmon sandwich is just right; filling but refreshing at the same time with the zesty seasoning of savory yogurt. My mom and grandmother got the French Dip sandwich and the BBQ chicken, respectively. They both raved about their orders.Dessert: The flourless chocolate cake and the warm cookie are both unbelievably good (see pictures)!!!This is the best restaurant in Glenview. I guarantee that if you go, you'll love it.

This afternoon, one of our party spilled her water, and immediately three employees rushed over to assist her.We have been coming here for what seems like forever because the food is good; the portions are generous; the prices are competitive; and there's plenty of parking. It certainly doesn't hurt that there's convenient shopping nearby -- well-known discounted retail chains; craft/hobby stores; beauty supply store; etc.

Alexander's isn't big, but it packs a punch in terms of delicious breakfast fare. There are the usual suspects but also some distinctive combinations of things, and all of it is homemade. The daily specials are always intriguing and everything is fresh. We have eaten there multiple times and the service is always fast and friendly.

Experience the nostalgia of a Northwoods Supper Club at L.Woods Tap & Pine Lodge. The menu features American classics and barbecue specialties. Menu highlights include 12-Hour Smoked Prime Brisket, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, BBQ Ribs, and Wisconsin Fish Fr
As a Frequent Diner member, was somewhat shocked at the way the late afternoon meal unfolded. Arrived around 3:40PM, and asked for the dinner menu. Was seated in the bar area, where the only server doubled as the bartender, and NO busboy help, as it got busier (even though the server tried her hardest) things just went south from there. Had a 6 piece shrimp cocktail, which was excellent, soups were luke warm, but could not get attention of the server to correct the problem because she then became very busy with bar patrons and other tables.....all they while the manager with another employee stood at the front talking.....not paying attention to what going on. Had ask for bread and butter.....it finally arrived a loaf of onion bread that my wife could not eat......finally asked server if there was another type of bread available....she said no, so I asked to pay for a piece of the corn bread that went along with the brisket.....she said fine. 5 minutes later, the manager that was doing nothing came to the table and said he was sorry, they only had enough corn bread for the brisket special that day. I then expressed my concern about the lack of people working.....he said "sorry" and walked away. There was dirty dishes from the shrimp and soup laying on the table, but I guess he felt that was not has job to remove them....a pathetic attitude for a Melman restaurant manager. All the entries were finally served.....with my wife's Filet being excellent. But at 32.95 with only a side of fries....pretty pricey.....Wildfire offers 2 sides along with excellent service no matter what time you go to the restaurant. Obviously somebody (besides the current management staff at Woods) needs to address the staffing problems during ALL time periods. Spent $168 for a disrupted dinner.....won't be back for awhile.

Maurice and Flaurie Berman, the co-founders of Superdawg Drive-In at 6363 North Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago, at the corner of Milwaukee, Devon and Nagle, are gone. But the legendary, iconic, one-of-a-kind hot dog stand they founded in 1948, with car hop service, a Chicago-style hot dog like no other and the traditional figures on the roof are still there. My wife and I have been making periodic trips to Superdawg since we got married in the 1970s. But friends have been loyal customers since the 1950s. A trip to Superdawg recalls memories of the 1950s, when drive-ins and car hops were so popular, when you drove your father's car for the first time and took a date along. We recently drove up North Milwaukee Avenue to get our monthly Superdawg fix. Superdawg isn't a weiner or frankfurter or red hot. It's a slab of juicy pure beef that is bigger than any other hot dog, no pork or veal or cereal or filler of any kind, with all the trimmings--mustard, piccalilli, Kosher dill pickle, chopped Spanish onions and hot peppers on a poppy seed bun. With an order of Super Fries. And wash it all down with a chocolate milk shake and large mug of root beer. Eating in your car never tasted so good.

We eat at deli's across the country. I was so disappointed by the service that it took away from the food. The restauant was filled with employees but had no other customers while we were there. Nevertheless ordering was pure chaos. Our order-taker couldn't remember that she had taken our order and then she got offended when we spoke with someone else. It took quite a bit of time between ordering and getting our food. Plus I think it's really strange to have a deli without serving hot matzo ball soup. the sandwiches were good. The desserts looked good. They also did not have lox eggs onion.they should take a trip to Kenny and Ziggy's in Houston and see how a good deli is run. Kaufman's has the opportunity to create a great deli if they had a good mentor.
