Whilst in America I've always found it a good idea to check out the fast food in the home of fast food, after all, that's where it's best right? Not so. After a distinctly average Wendy's came a distinctly average KFC. last time I was stateside over 25 years ago they had invented new, minus flavour, KFC. Not sure this was but it wasn't anything like that which we enjoy at home. No variery meal (possibly the greatest fast meal in the history of the universe) either. Oh dear...

Day before Mother's Day we were in Lexington and decided to try KC's.. the parking lot was PACKED which should mean the place is good, right? We walked in and were seated quickly... We were given a menu which was limited but seemed to fit the bill of "farmhouse" style food... We were told there was a seafood buffet for $13.99 which seemed like a good price. We (wife and I) both decided to try it.. the menu was limited but looked good.. it included steak, fish, four types of shrimp dishes, frog legs, mud bugs (along with the corn on the cob and taters) white beans, green beans and fries along with hushpuppies... near the end of the buffet was mayo based coleslaw and cold peel and eat shrimp... I will start with saying it was not bad but there were several things that could have improvement... the steak was tough, overcooked and lacked any flavor... I had to put salt, pepper and steak sauce on it to make it edible... my wife said the fish was a bit salty but good.. we tried all four shrimp dishes and had no complaints there... the corn on the cob and tater from the crab boil had good taste although some butter for the tater would have been good.. I may have just missed it. The white beans were perfect but the green beans were ok at best.. needed more flavor cooked into them and a tad more salt.. course the salt is something that can be added at the table. After i checked out and took a to go menu I saw that they offered a vinegar slaw but the only one on the buffet was mayo based and I wish both had been offered. The peel and eat shrimp were good and cold in the ice and paired well with the cocktail sauce. We finished off with a peach cobbler which was hot and good. Last I shall mention is the hushpuppies... bland at best and tasted like they had been cooked in old grease or in grease with other things. They needed some onion and some type of flavoring.. other than corn meal and I guess milk or water and fried they were not the highlight of the bread offerings. They do offer catfish on the menu but did not have it since it was not offered on the buffet so I can not offer any comment on it. The one thing I did see listed on the menu that was interesting was a hog jowl platter.. ok.. maybe next time perhaps. Overall it was a filling meal but could have been better.. not a place I would rush back to as a destination point but based on the full parking lot and full restaurant it must be a hit with the locals.
We are a just a small bake shop serving light lunches and sweet baked goods almost everyday. Locally owned and family operated. Lisa our owner started life out in Cleveland Texas in the mid-70s. As a young girl she was very close to her grandfather Melvin
I tried the grilled cheese and small pasta salad. The sandwich was excellent made with a Pannini type bread and I had my choice of cheeses. It was comfort food on steroids. The pasta was good and much healthier. The owner was friendly, and I'll be a repeat customer for sure.Thank you so much for your review we look forward to serving you again.

Had the jumbo shrimp (8 pcs) with baked potato. Salad bar comes with all entrees, just not with sandwiches. Another bonus with entrees is the soft ice cream machine with chocolate chips, oreo cookie pieces, or sprinkles if you wish. All four of us had different entrees and all were happy with their food. I might add the salad bar was very fresh and the service was great.I don't understand the 3 star rating unless the locals are taking it for granted. Highly recommend you try this restaurant located on main hwy Lexinton near Walmart.

Great little lunch spot... The burgers are big and juicy and there's lots of food but it's not necessarily cheap. That being said, you don't feel cheated because their portions are substantial... They also have seafood which is fresh as they make regular runs to pick it up from the coast...
Dan's Cafe has always been a local favorite, however it has changed owners several times over the years. While some owners were not as great as others, the food now is real close to the original. Our meal was fresh and hot like catfish should be. The server was right on time and DON'T forget desert... Have a look at the "Pie Safe" full of homemade pies right by the front door.Go early and avoid the crowd!
