Texas Smoke Barbecue

Reviewed By AnAnthropologist

I love barbecue and it is hard to find in New Jersey so when a colleague told us about this place we tried it. The meat on the pulled pork sandwich was ok but I thought the roll on which the sandwich was served was not good. However, the onion rings were very good and it is reasonably priced. Be aware that it isn't really accessible to the disabled or people using wheelchairs because although there is a ramp to the front door the only seating on the first floor is at the bar and high tops and there are only stairs to the second floor with regular tables.

Gatwyns II

Can’t believe all the positives written about this place - our visit was quite the opposite. Special classic cocktail posted on the boards in the dining room was a Brandy Alexander. Waitress was stumped as to what it was. Drink took literally 10+ minutes to arrive and it was a horribly prepared and unbalanced drink. Their Bloody Mary was also one of the poorer example of my favorite’s. The French Onion Soup was terrible. Cheese burned to a crisp on 1 side - the broth was weak and more like dishwater than a hearty beef broth. The fish and chips and chicken in the basket were ok- but by the time they arrived- we were really ready to go. Big PASS on this place. Very disappointed in this visit to Gatwyns II.

Tried Rust last night for the first time and we were happily surprised! The restaurant is very rustic and homey, but had a lively atmosphere. The Thai curry mussels with fries were on point, fresh, delicious, and well seasoned. The Reuben and the lobster Cobb salad were excellent as well! Their sherry vinaigrette is outstanding. The service was very friendly, albeit a little slow, but it was a Saturday night so that's forgiveable. All in all, a great experience and we'll definitely be back!

They keep the prices low by requiring everyone to buy a drink. You can buy anything from water to cosmos to wine to beer. The lobster is the big hit here as are the dozen clams that come with it. These clams are the bigger ones - - a little too chewy for my taste but for the price, who could argue! Just bring CASH!!!!!

Stop in the Taphouse 15 for dinner. We were seated quickly. Our server was friend and answered every question we had. We both had a fish dish, salmon and cod. The salmon was good, but my cod wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I have to try the pizza if I stop in again.

So I have been a fan of this place for many years. Some times change is not good. What happened to the creative menu? Gone! There is nothing on that menu that is interesting or gourmet. Its same old thing everyone else is serving. The reason I went to Alice's was to try something different which I was always satisfied with. Shame they sold out. Guess I'll be going to Stonewater. They lost a really good customer. By the way food is mediocre at best. Don't expect the same quality.Thank you for sharing your opinion with us. Our new menu does have a more casual theme. And even though you aren't fond of the changes - we are very excited. Let me explain. Alice's original concept was "casual" yet, we spent years experimenting with the notion of offering complex multi-tiered presentations from the kitchen. As a customer you probably noticed our seasonal menu would offer more complex dishes in winter (when volume was lower) and less complex in summer (when volume was high). However, our trials resulted in failure. Basically, our entire facility is not equipped for the 3 to 4 pan meals which are very complex and require many steps and ingredients from a the line. This inadequacy put amazing stress on our talented kitchen staff resulting mostly in spotty results which we felt was cannibalizing our customer base. Nothing loses a customer more than long ticket times, sold-out menu items, inconsistent preparation and presentation - all of which we were struggling with.We needed to admit what we were attempting to do was not working. Since we cannot build a bigger kitchen - we had to simplify the menu - which took quite a lot of planning and reflection. The change was not, as you note, a sell out. The change was to fix a broken formula which consistently disappointed patrons and ran costs through the roof and put undo stress on our staff. The new menu (which features our most successful menu items and specials we have served over the years) has enabled our kitchen to produce more reliable product with reasonable ticket times. We wanted our wait staff to be less burdened with customer complaints and focus on their job of serving happy customers. Our dedication to an above average (if not great) dining experience is stronger than ever. We believe that casual food does not need to be cheap or insulting - it is just casual. Our menu and the ingredients we offer are under constant scrutiny for customer enjoyment and quality for price. We are not selling out.Once the heavy volume summer season is behind us - we will be offering specials which will reflect the skill and talent of our kitchen staff. Customers will see many items that they recognize. Offering these as specials is a great solution as we can plan and prepare these items with utmost control over quality and production that will please customers and not sink our kitchen operations. While we are sorry that you claim you will not be back - we hope that you reconsider one day. As a side note, Stonewater is a lovely place with a large kitchen and staff too match. I think that is a fine location for more gourmet type of presentation you are after.

Stone Water at 3 Peaks Marina

The exact origin of the name Hopatcong is unknown, though it is most commonly attributed to the Lenape Indian word for "stone water," or "stone over water". Paying tribute to Lake Hopatcong's Lenape Indian roots, Stone Water is the region's newest lakefro

Beautiful view on the lake. Great, yea, almost perfect Filet. Should have waved a flag or napkin to get wait staff’s attention. We waited for 30 minutes after being seated to get water. Neither the bus staff nor wait staff came back to ask to refill our waters for the next hour while we were eating. The restaurant was not full. Wife’s burger was mediocre. My Filet Mignon was really good. Would I go back?… possibly to give it one more chance.

One of the things I disliked about this diner was how rude the manager was at night to the waitstaff openly. I very rarely go here anymore since the prices are ridiculous and the food is always inconsistent. The only time I do go is a matter of convenience. How this manager still works at this establishment brings me to the only conclusion that he must be family. I had not been their for a year and just like the year before I found myself in the diner at about 9 pm. Also, Just like the year before the manager berated the staff in such a manner, in front of patrons and all to see, that it made me very uncomfortable. The staff and the manager had an open, loud, argument about how the desert case was not cleaned properly. Then within less then a half hour later the manager began to publicly humiliating another staff member. If I really wanted to watch Jerry Springer like antics while I ate, I could do so back at home watching it on T.V. At least then I would have the choice to switch it off instead of being forced to watch it in this supposed place of business. I truly despise this place, and even in matters of convenience I will use extra will power to avoid this blemish in Lake Hopatcong. I am sure in my absence this awful human being, touted as a manager, will cause enough employee turnover that the owners will actually get a clue and let this person go. He is someone that should be in therapy, not in a management position.Thank you for bringing this to my attention. We have let the manager go and would appreciate you taking this review down as it does not reflect our policies. Please say hello next time you are in and thanks again in advance.Jimmy
