The kids wanted fried chicken for dinner and requested to go to Church's. There were more than a few workers in the back, and we were the only people in line. They were out of multiple side dishes. We requested Mac n cheese which was on the menu, and the girl informed us that it had been sitting under the lamp for many hours and wasn't fit to eat. My thought was why wasn't it thrown out and more made? The kids were disappointed. The place did not look well-kept or clean. These people need to get their act together!

On Hwy 83 near the junciton of I-10
It wasnât near as crowded as the McDonalds across the street at the gas station...and now we know why. BBQ was dry. The sauce was thin like water. One sauce was almost all vinegar and the other was like tomato sauce. We had stopped here in the past and it was good, but no more. We will not return.
I happened on this little gem on a recent motorcycle trip along I-10 in the Texas Hill Country. The interior is simple, painted cinder block walls and plastic table cloths, yet immaculately kept. The day's special, grilled catfish, was tasty and perfectly textured. The salad bar was fresh and offered a fair variety of vegetable and dressings. As the cafe's name indicates, there's an internet connection. Service was friendly and fast. All in all, a pleasant place to take a break only a half mile from I-10 (on the south side).
We were hungry after a long drive and found ourselves with few choices for supper. We found the best service and great burgers and homemade onion rings that we made a picnic supper of down by the Llano river.
Stopped while in junction, right along the Main Street. Breakfast sandwiches, donuts, what looked like a hot dog in a roll baked. I ordered apple fritter and coffee.
Keep in mind this isnt a big city 5 star eatery. Its a nice sit down homestyle cooking jump off the highway for a break place. Small salad bar but nice options. We.tried pepper staek and a philly cheese steak. Good food and filling. Pricing is around $8-15 a plate. Right off I-10 and friendly server

Traveling down I10 can mean food is few and far between and tried Plumley's as San Antonio was too far.....it was really quite good. Menu choices are limited and consists mostly of sandwiches and oddities but the sandwiches we had were excellent. I had a ham and cheese on some really good sourdough bread and my wife had a chicken salad that was very good (she said)....If you're hungry and passing through, give this a try

A Texas Monthly top Texas Cafe
I so wanted to like this restaurant, but the attitude of the hostess/waitress. No greeting, no smile. She either was having a bad day, or really hates her job. Food was mediocre at best. I had chicken fried steak that was served cool. The salad bar. (A footed bathtub) was the only good thing here, although the bowls were tiny for the price.

Located in the heart of the hill country, Lum's serves up vintage Texas smoked BBQ along with sinister sides and carefully prepared deserts. Our approach to barbecue is simple: lots of time and lots of wood. Our meat is dry rubbed with a select few spices
We stayed in town for our anniversary trip, and we tried out Lumâs for our anniversary dinner. It was delicious, and the staff was all friendly! We both ordered the 3 meat plate. My husband had brisket, turkey, and jalapeño cheese sausage with potato salad and pinto beans. Every bite of the meat was tender and juicy and smoky, just how good Texas barbecue should be. The sides werealso good, but they were lacking some salt. On my 3 meat plate I tried brisket, pork loin, and jalapeño sausage with cucumber salad and cream corn. Again all of the meat was perfectly tender and juicy and quite flavorful which isnât always the case with smoked meatâoftentimes it just tastes like smoke. I wouldnât order the cucumber salad again; it wasnât bad but it was just cucumber and onion in a vinegar base. The cream corn though was very tasty. I ate it with the pickled jalapeños, and that made it even better. Last but not least was the coconut cream pie. Oh. My. Goodness. It was delish! Perfect ending to the evening! My husband ate most of his plate, but I left satisfied with at least one meal, but maybe two, left of my mine which was the plan, so I could enjoy it again tomorrow after we spend the day at the state park. Definitely hit up Lumâs when youâre passing through. This small town joint will not disappoint!
