Find out what American restaurants to try in Hatteras Island. Hatteras Island is a barrier island off the coast of North Carolina, on the Atlantic Ocean. Famed for its lighthouse and long sandy beaches, it is a great family friendly place for a relaxing holiday. Many people visiting Hatteras Island will be looking for a beach holiday, and the long sandy beaches looking out over the Atlantic Ocean are well worth exploring - even at the height of summer or the 4th of July weekend you can usually find a good stretch of beach all to yourselves. Canadian Hole, between the towns of Buxton and Avon, is a particularly good spot. In addition to the beach itself, the waters of Pamlico Sound are perfect for wading, and tourists flock there as the conditions are perfect for windsurfing and kite boarding. In terms of sightseeing there is also the lighthouse, which was moved inland in 1999 to protect it from coastal erosion, and the 825 acre Buxton Coastal Reserve, an area of maritime woodland full of spectacular wildlife (there have even been sightings of bald eagles) and plenty of hiking trails for those members of the family looking for a bit more exercise.

We tried a couple of times to get into Hatteras Sol but there was always a wait of over and hour - just the 2 of us and we couldn't even get a spot at the bar. So we hightailed it over to Dinky's and had 3 nights of excellent food. One night I had the Crab Cakes - 2 and one from fried and out of this world good and the other was broiled and very good but the fried beat out the broiled and I was very surprised. Wife had the steak with Gorgonzola and that was spot on good. 2nd time I got the steak oscar and that was out of this world good. 3rd time was the baked tile fish with parmesan. All so very good. The first night going there we got seated at a table very quickly and we were a party of 4. the next 2 times was just Heather and I and we sat at the bar. Maybe had a 5 min wait to get those spots.

A bit slow to start off. Not a very big place to be so slow to seat guests. Still took a few minutes to get a waitress. She finally did take our order. Waiting for our food as I make this review. Cute little gift shop area.I'm sorry our service was a little slower than you expected when you came in. I'm not sure what was going on that day, but slow service is not the norm here. I hope you'll give us a second chance to show you what exceptional service looks like. Warmly, Keith Gray, Owner

We actually came to Pangea 5 years ago and the whole experience was forgettable. However, we decided to try it again this year and were blown away by the excellent service from Serhii and the quality of the food! I started with a prickly sunrise drink and it was very tasty, then we decided to get the coconut shrimp appetizer. My boyfriend doesn't usually eat shrimp but he really enjoyed it. We both agreed that the Pina colada sauce would have been easier to eat if it was blended up or if the coconut flakes were smaller, but it tasted excellent. I ordered the special of the evening. It was a grilled Mahi fillet with grilled zucchini, potato salad, and a basil mint pesto and it was outstanding!! The zucchini were cooked perfectly and the fish was flaky and delicious. My boyfriend got the curry bowl with chicken and said it was really good. It came out really hot and it was a large portion size with fresh, crispy vegetables and rice. The restaurant was clean and Serhii was wonderful. We will be coming back and we highly recommend Pangea Tavern!!

Since I often travel alone I like to go to diner early before places get to busy. I arrived when Rustyâs opened at 5pm. I was seated immediately and had great customer service. My meal was excellent- blackened red drum with a fabulous mango salsa. I also added a side of cheese grits. Everything was excellent. I got dessert to take home with me. It was a lemon berry cake that was delightful. I highly recommend this restaurant! They were friendly to familyâs with small children and people dining alone.

The place seems to be aiming for a slightly upscale casual experience. You order at the bar and find you seat, tables inside and picnic tables outside. Very good tuna and crabcakes. Entertaining views of the sunset, windsurfers and people flying drones. Little expensive but a very nice experience.

We arrived right as they opened at 5:00 as we did not want to wait. There was no problem getting in and when we left about an hour later there was still no wait. Service was fast and pleasant and the chef was very accomodting to menu changes for diet reasons. The food is not elaborate but was quite good. We plan to return.
