Found Uncle john's by accident on a Sunday morning while looking for another place....happy accident! This place is a gem, it's very small, eight seats at the counter and three tables all told, so maybe eighteen seats in all. The service was fast and friendly, and the coffee was good. The western omelet was cooked perfectly, with a lot of peppers and onions with ham in it. Quick refills on coffee, and easy prices, I will definitely go back.

We often meet my cousins here for dinner. It is a great restaurant for the variety of selections on their menu. The service has alway been great. Our server this night was Adam and he could not have been anymore accommodating. We like the atmosphere in their dinning room as it is conducive to table talk without having to shout to hear one another. The pasta and fish dish I got was delicious. There were plenty of clams, scallops and shrimp in my dish. The portion was sufficient to take some home. This is one of the better restaurants in the Capital District for a quality dinner evening out.

located at the historic downtown Troy, right in the first floor of the Cannon Building, once was a jewelry store now converted in a beautiful bistro cafe with outside seating, you can definitely enjoy cocktails with your lunch or mimosas with our weekend
In Albany for a wedding, we went to Troy to visit our alma maters, Russell Sage College and RPI. After a chilly walk around town (my! how things have changed - so many interesting shops, craft and artisan stores and restaurants!) we were in search of a warm lunch. Illium is a wonderful spot! We were greeted warmly and had a nice corner table in the back. The decor is charming - old wooden glass cases that once housed jewelry, murals up above of the rivers and art work all around. We had two orders of the Reuben which was loaded with corned beef and grilled on marble bread. The cole slaw was declared delicious, too. Two of us opted for the soup and half sandwich - one vegetable soup and one delicious roasted red pepper puree. One of us had the turkey sandwich and I had the incredible steak and brie sandwich with horseradish sauce on ciabatta. I am normally not a big beef eater, but the description sounded yummy and it was available for the half sandwich option. Soups and sandwiches were all great choices. The servers were efficient, pleasant and accommodating. We will definitely be back on our next trip to the area. Thank you!

We always enjoy a stop at Brown's as we remember it from a long time ago as Brown and Moran's and then it was Uncle Sam's, but now its back to just Brown's. Good friendly bar tenders, great drinks and dinner. Sausages are excellent and so is their steak but there is a full burger and sandwich menu with appetizers too.

High energy, casual fine dining in downtown Troy, featuring shareable plates of American food with global influences.
A friend suggested we dine here after he attended a wine tasting nearby. The food was excellent as was the service. The entire dining experience was enjoyable. The atmosphere is perfect to conduct casual conversation at out table. My wife's trout was prepared to perfection. My entree was the special pasta dish and was equally delicious. We will be returning for sure.

This Dinosaur Bar-B-Que location is part of a chain serving Southern-style smoked meats and draft brews (~25 options) in a dark wood, inviting, relaxing retro setting. They are located right along the Hudson River in the historic area of Troy and have seating (inside and outside) that overlooks the river. Otherwise, their interior is quiet huge, with seating on the bar side (at the bar, hightops, tables) or in the family area (tables, booths). They are appropriate for singles, couples, families or groups (two private rooms). If you cannot stay to eat, they also provide carryout options. They have their own lot, with plenty of off street parking. Inside they have TVs spread around for viewing current sporting events. Further, they have live music (Friday & Saturday evenings). Of course, they feature smoked meats which include wings, shrimp, pulled pork, brisket, sausage, salmon, chicken, and ribs. And of the latter are available meal options. For those that cannot choose just one - have a platter or two or three. They too offer burgers or their smoked meats in various sandwich options. Sides include BBQ beans, fries, BBQ fried rice, Mac & cheese, chili, greens, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, coleslaw or potato salad. We tried their Vegetarian Smoked Portobello sandwich, BBQ Ribs, smoked sausage, smoked chicken, pulled pork and brisket. We loved all of their smoked options. The sides too were excellent. Added to the nice food, the service was too superior. We look forward to our next visit.

This restaurant really surpassed our expectations and I would rate it up there with any fine dining establishment. Laurie provided outstanding, attentive service and the manager, Jennifer stopped by twice to ensure everything was ok. We loved the way the menu was set up to allow for the classic fare or you could choose your entree and two sides. First we were served delicious artisan bread and butter.I had the grilled shrimp on a bed of sautéed spinach with grape tomatoes lobster claw, crab meat and a polenta cake with a tangy, lemony sauce. My dear husband had the filet, Pittsburgh style aka black and blue. He declined the sauce choices. He had a side of real mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms. He shared a few small bites with me and it was like butter, tender and so delicious. We sent our compliments to the chef and wish we lived closer to enjoy it more often. We were too full to enjoy a dessert but I am sure they were delicious! There was a vanilla cheesecake, chocolate mousse or berry shortcake. Overall we had an enjoyable dining experience and left sated and happy because we had been on the road traveling for 6 weeks and had been disappointed several times. This more than made up for all the McDonaldâs and Chick fil a fast food we had come to depend upon bc the pricey restaurants we had tried disappointed us several times. There was a great fireplace in the dining room and it was the best ambience even if it was almost the middle of July! The music was nice and we only heard it every now and then so it was. It loud and overpowering. There was plenty of parking and great signage bc we were staying in the adjacent hotel and just followed the signs as we wound our way through once we entered. Dear @tinydiny,Thank you so very much for the lovely compliments and honest feedback regarding your recent experience in our restaurant. We're delighted to hear you enjoyed everything from the delicious food to the ambiance and our friendly staff. We wish you lived closer, too, and hope you'll visit again during your next trip to/through the Latham, NY area!Sincerely,The Century House Team

Babe's Cafe has new owners and has been completely remodeled. Please come in and have a meal in our family oriented environment!! We guarantee you will be back for more!
We stopped at this diner after a friend of ours posted how much he and his wife enjoyed it.I opted for a Reuben sandwich with onion rings and had a Pepsi for our beverages. Lisa had a huge hamburger with some of the best homemade macaroni salad she ever tasted. The portions were huge, the food tasty and the sodas were very fizzy and cold. This is a small restaurant with limited parking. It seemed to be quite popular with locals. All in all everything was perfect on our lunch outing.I would highly recommend this establishment. Oh another point is there are twin women that served us and both were very friendly and quick service.

My husband, my daughter-in-law and I visited for dinner. Her linguini and white clam sauce was a big hit and my husband's chicken parmigiana was even more impressive. My shepherd's pie, however, was a disappointing choice. We will definitely return because I want to try the chicken marsala.
