Celebrating its 61st year under four ownerships, Carl's Drive-In at 9033 Manchester Road in Brentwood, Missouri, a southwest suburb of St. Louis, has been satisfying customers since car hops went out of style. With limited seating (16 seats) and limited parking, this Route 66-themed and cash only American diner specializes in hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, foot-long chili dogs and house-made root beer in frosted mugs made by the original IBC root beer recipe, which Carl Meyer bought in 1975. A gas station in 1918, the building was converted into a hot dog stand in 1943. Carl Meyer bought the property in 1959, named it Carl's Drive-In and offered curb service and a walk-up window. The car hop era ended in 1969. Frank Cunetto bought the business in 1987 and long-time customer Mike Franklin assumed ownership in 2015. The names have changed and the car hops are gone but Carl's root beer and the burgers and dogs are as delicious as ever. My wife and I managed to find a couple of seats for an early lunch. My wife had a bowl of chili and a fish fillet sandwich with fries. I had a bowl of chili and a double bacon cheeseburger with pickles, onion, mustard, lettuce, tomato and ketchup with fries. I only wish I had room for a foot-long chili dog. Naturally, we washed it all down with frosted mugs of root beer. And we capped it all off with two Ted Drewes concretes, chocolate and strawberry. It brings back fond memories of the 1950s, when drive-ins and car hops were the rage.

Several best things about Olive and Oak. First, the food is beyond amazing. I'm from New Jersey and I had a blow fish dinner and an amazing crab dip as an appetizer. My wife had a soft shell crab appetizer and a porgy and clam dinner. What a perfect Mothers' Day celebration (And though our "kids" are far from kids anymore, we thoroughly enjoyed the young couple who sat at the next table with their two extremely well-behaved sons). Service was amazing thanks to Reed and the support staff. Finally, read the story of how this restaurant came to be. It;s both a sad and the warmest story you will ever have heard.I read one of the reviews particularly about fish. I grew up in New Jersey, two miles from Cape May and the Atlantic Ocean, in a family that fished all the time (Owned three different party boats that took people fishing). The porgy dinner was as good as any I had ever eaten and the blow fish was the same - and over the years I caught many pounds of porgies and blow fish and cooked them fresh - as in the same night they were caught. In terms of price, it can be expensive (As in we spent @$150.00 including tip, cocktails and dessert) or inexpensive (As in the young couple at the next table enjoyed hamburgers and fries and kids' meals).

Recently dined here as part of an Aniversary celebration. Apologize for not remembering our servers name. Young lady wiith blond ponytil, that was attentive and knowledgale. Quick note on this she was friendly and upbeat but neither my spouse or myself noticed any of the other servers even smile during our stay. Did not affect our meal in any way, just seems curious.Anyway BH had Oysters Rocekefeller and I had Lobster clam chowder as an appitizer. The Corn chowder was probably the best soup I have ever had. Oysters were very tasty also. Bh had a small Filet, and I had the rib-eye, both were cooked exactly as requested and very flavorful, various sides - Loster mac n cheese, brussel sprouts (amazing) and grilled asparagus were all excellent. Could not complete more than half the bounty and had a woderful lunch the next day of the leftovers. Keep this in mind when you get your tab, and it is a it pricey, but well worth and you are actually paying for wo meals each with the large servings.

It's been five years since have been here. This time I was doing a girl friend's weekend and we had tickets to the St Louis Rep which was close by. Besides it's close proximity to the theater, it offered gluten free items and farm to market. I made reservations for Saturday night at 6 pm. The place offers a good wine list. A few of us took advantage of the "trio" flight special, 3 half glasses of wine ($14). There was a selection of three types of trio (white, red, and pinot) It was a nice way to taste three wine brands I wasn't familiar with. The food menu split up from small plates (hot and cold,& specials) the same with large plates. So there is price options that range for $5 for soups, salads) to $13.50 for small plates and $13.50-$26 for large plates.) We had to admit it was hard to choose, it all sounded delicious from the description. We did mention this to our waiter, and his response is "then you have to come back again to try something else." That did bring a grin to our faces. Our waiter was very good, he knew the menu, the specials listed and what wines they were out of. I ended up selecting the braised pork shoulder in apple cider with roasted Brussels sprouts and mashed sweet potatoes. ($18.90). The large plate portions were generous and the flavors were there. Others had the Big Sky Blue Cheese Burger ($13.50) they seemed to like it very much. One of my friends ordered a small dish of spaghetti squash in an amazing cheese sauce. And of course we had to fit dessert in there somewhere. They had various baked goods (Chocolate Cherry Pie) and homemade ice cream. I had the ice cream which was apple cinnamon flavored. Highly recommend this place. Thanks so much for your detailed review Carol! There is so much more to be sampled, so I agree with your server - you should come back! :)Thanks again and happy new year,Kelly DonovanMarketing & Communications

In The "Heart" of St. Louis is a very special place! The Bonefish Grill is noted not only for their fine seafood, but their wonderful salads and Asian dishes as well!I would like to commend two great servers who make my weekly visits so special:Bronwyn, (Welsh Lady) who does a most special service in the lounge. A true professional with a lot of special regular customers. She always welcomes guests with a smile and friendly reception. Most helpful, she is a real Gem!Likewise, one of the finest servers in town is Anthony! Energetic, and helpful, he recommends for the "Light diners", split your dishes and enjoy the fine appetizers and desserts offered here!I could go down the list of the wonderful people that are there to make you dining experience wonderful, including, Nic, a great gentleman from Springfield, Mo area.Enjoy!

I really enjoyed having nightcaps with my friends at this place. You definitely feel like you're in a German pub or timber lodge or Masonic gathering or something. The couches are old and rustic, as well as the tables and the setting. The walls are adorned with "olde" stuff. It's my kind of place! The people there seem to be mostly of the more chilled out persuasion. Bartenders seem pretty chill and friendly. I had a cocktail that I think was called Aztec Gold, which was basically like a dessert drink, very tasty. Perfect end to the night! For a brief period of time, there was a live pianist and bassist playing some jazzy tones. A wee bit pricey if you're just getting basic drinks.. so go for an interesting cocktail or unique brew.

A New Mexico themed diner. Interestingly, it is on Southwest Avenue. Their slogan is something like, A taste of the Southwest on Southwest.
After hearing great things about this place, decided to stop in for breakfast, my oh my am I glad that I did. Wow, is their food on point. Everything was truly incredible and well with the wait! The place is small and busy, but please wait and try it, youâll be hooked just like I am.

We specialize in Wood Fired Pizza, slow smoked BBQ and offer a wonderful selection of local craft beer on tap.
A salmon dinner a few weeks ago was excellent, with the salmon cooked just right and an interesting side. So the Chef's Choice pizza this week sounded fine: Flyin' Hawaiian, with pineapple and prosciutto. What could go wrong?First, it took forever. Usually pizzas are out within minutes. At least I'd ordered a half salad - the vinaigrette listed wasn't exactly what arrived, but okay - and it was nearly finished when the pizza arrived, covered with melted mozzarella to the point of overkill. You couldn't see what was underneath. Its pineapple tasted good - but this chunk of pork? Surely not prosciutto - maybe leftover pork loin? There was absolutely no prosciutto in the whole pizza, just ¼'thick pieces of chewy meat. When I asked the server, she came back to say that "the chef says that that is our prosciutto."Weird. Fluid definition, obviously. (And the offer to make another wasn't a choice - who wants another of the same?)I was also unexpectedly disappointed in the beer offerings. Usually there are 6-7 outstanding local beers among the draft choices, always some good seasonals. No, not this visit.. Nothing special. They offered the usual big brewery choices, just on draft. What fun is that?So it's as though something happened and the TwinOak we enjoyed a few weeks ago disappeared, and a lesser-quality option was put in its place. All I can say is that the salad was fresh and that a half-order is more than sufficient. Which isn't the point of visiting a place like TwinOaks....Thank you for providing us feedback about your experience. Customer feedback is very important to us and we are sorry to hear we didn't meet your expectations. We strive to make sure every customer leaves happy and satisfied with our services. Thank you for your time and we hope to see you again soon so we can provide you with a five-star experience!

Featuring local "farm to table" food using a breadth of farmer in the Missouri and Illinois communities. When asked to define of The Crossing, Owner/Executive Chef Jim Fiala often says that he is a chef that buys locally whenever possible and cooks as any
This place was packed on a Thursday evening so lucky we got last minute reservations. Our meals were absolutely outstanding. The Heirloom tomato and burrata cheese salad was my favorite, although my husband liked his local peach salad a lot. He declared his branzino fish dish the best he had ever had and I agreed after a couple of tastes on my part. My morel pasta was wonderful. The only downfall was since I have to be gluten free, the gluten free pastas are not as good as regular, but the dish itself was a treat. The flourless chocolate cake with ice cream was divine. Definitely would go to this restaurant when in the area next, but would try the tasting menu to get a wider sampling of this wonderful cuisine.
