After all of the great reviews, we went out of our way to stop for lunch and a brew after hiking. Boy, were we disappointed! The "restaurant" was a taco food truck out in the parking lot, and out of the list of brews, there were three available. We ended up leaving, and driving to the Peddlin' Pig tavern in Boone, N.C. Much better!!

There are a LOT of Columbian and Caribbean restaurants where we live so we are very familiar with the dishes served here. That said, we were mostly unimpressed â with one exception: The tomatillo salsa is to die for. Everything else (empanadas, asada colombiana, tropi chopi pork) just average. Dear Skytraveler,I thank you for taking the time to review our restaurant and for your appreciation for our dining room salsa. I am sorry to inform you though there are no tomatillos in the salsa. Every loves it and would love to have the recipe. I want you and our readers to understand that the three items you are reviewing are our most popular and most ordered items on our menu. As I respect your opinion of these items, I also respect the hundreds of positive reviews of the same items we have received over the course of years. Thank you again.

After finding this great restaurant, we ate there every day of our stay in Bakersville. The food is delicious, home cooked and very reasonable prices. I had the veggie omelet every morning. Loved this place!Thanks so much!

Helen's appears to be a favorite place to congregate for the locals. Upon exiting our car we were met with cigarette smoke as the restaurant has a smoking location just outside the restaurant entry/exit. Upon entering the restaurant we noticed the decor to be what one typically expects in small town restaurants. The waitress was attentive and when asked, offered meal suggestions. My wife had the fish and I had the hamburg steak, both of which were advertised as customer favorites. The hamburg steak was served with mashed potatoes and gravy, and corn. Gravy was also on the hamburg steak and my request. The meals were very good and were average in size (medium portions). We sat near the exterior door and each time a worker came in from smoking (and most all the workers we saw smoked), we were given a huge whiff of cigarette smoke. Would highly recommend if you don't smoke to select a table far away from the door. Overall, the waitress was good at her job and the food was very good.

Hands down the best breakfast in the area! Awesome food and friendly service. They have specials from time to time which are awesome. Prices are so affordable you can eat a breakfast here for what you would pay for fast food! For the local or those passing through I highly recommend stopping in for some good food at Lee's!
