Food and drinks were good, but not life changing. We had the brisket queso which was really good. I had the chicken sandwich and my husband had the turkey burger. The parm fries were really good and so was the sangria. Unfortunately it was hot in there. Like sweating hot. And jam packed. We were seated at a little two seater by the door and it was in the path of the only way to exit the restaurant. Every single person that needed to leave had to squeeze by our table, and we legit had someone’s butt over our table for 2-3 min while they were saying goodbye to their group. I don’t think I’d visit again. If so, it would be for a to-go order.

While I have been to Denton several times I had not been intoruced to the Barley & Board until my recent visit. This restaurant's setting in an old hotel on the historic square could not be better or more convenient. The atsmosphere is great, even if it is a bit on the noisy side, and the service is impecable. The menu slections are very creative and the portions quite generous. Eventhough it might prove difficult, try to save room for some dessert as the slections are yummy and, I suspect, generous in size. Selection of craft brews is excellent. Well worth a stop if in Denton and worth a deviation in route if traveling near the Denton area.

Some friends invited my husband and I to meet here for dinner, and wow! They told me the catfish was good, and they were right. It was amazing! Portions large, so large that my husband eo normally eats all his food and part of mine had to pack so food to go! Beans and coleslaw also good! One in our group had chicken fried steak and raved about it. The service was great with our waitress keeping our drinks full and checking on us. There was a band setting up when we were leaving, so will have to go back and hear some live music! Atmosphere was quirky and fun! Love all the decor! Cannot wait to go back and take others!!!

I had the tri-tip special and it was outstanding. Others in my group had fish and salads and they were all satisfied. Sides of creamed corn and pinto beans were good too.

Such a bummer that the food quality was so bad as we love Chicken Express and this is our local one. Went at dinner 6pm ish. Tenders were under-sized and dried out. Cole slaw had a bad smell - we threw it out instead of risking it. We were in shortly after the grand open at it as pretty good (tenders still a bit undersized) but it has gone down in the mean time. Normally we'd give them another try but the food was so bad we'll just go to the one in Denton on the 380 --- Which by the way is awesome and a good value due to serving size !

We had some great breakfast which consisted of Pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage. The atmosphere inside was great as well though the parking lot was a little small but manageable.

I had the smoked balagonia sandwich and we shared their fried mushrooms which were outstanding! We've eaten here a few times and never had a bad meal,You gotta try this place!

Prairie House Restaurant

Prairie House is a solid restaurant serving reasonably good food. Every thing we tried was enjoyable. The table favorite was the Banditos. The jalapeno wrapped in chicken then wrapped in bacon had outstanding flavors. On the flip side, the burnt ends were dry and over cooked. They were okay, but I would not order them again. The brisket queso was nice. The fried mushrooms and cheese were nicely done, but nothing special. I really appreciated that they had craft beers on the menu. The restaurant itself is very large with lots of seating in the bar and two side rooms. The decor feels a bit like a rustic lodge. Saltgrass and Texas Roadhouse come to mind.Service was nicely done. Everyone we interacted with was pleasant and informative. When orders were delayed we were informed. I like the service team.Even though I enjoyed myself, I'm not sure I'd make a return visit. It's good food, but not great. The pricing makes it a little too much for me. Our total bill for four people was $166.80 with tax and tip. That's $40 a plate. I gave it four stars because a lot of people will love this place.

I ordered the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, fried okra, chocolate cream pie. First thing we sat next to the candy and there was this large dark haired kid who kept grabbing Taffy and eating it while dropping the wrappers on the floor next to our table. The second thing was the first drink cup I picked up and lipstick on the rim of the cup. Here comes the kicker. When my Chicken Fried Chicken arrived the potatoes were lukewarm with the cold spot right in the middle of the bottom and the okra well it was barely cooked as well. The chicken fried chicken what is room temperature and the gravy was cold. The biscuits that came with the plate seems cooked on top but when you pulled it apart it was just dough in the middle. All this brought to you by the same guy who would serve cheesy potatoes with breakfast that were absolutely horrible and most times not even cooked all the way through. Now I remember why I haven't been back there in almost 3 years. Restroom was completely covered with trash around the trash can and floor with the ceiling missing over the toilets. Our booth seats were full of food leftovers obviously swept from the table when cleaned. I wonder does this guy still take the waitresses tips?Sorry you are not happy, so much of what you complained about could have been immediately taken care of by asking for a manager, I'm sorry you choose to sit unhappy. The customer eating taffy was beyond my control, and the same guy you said served you the breakfast potatoes has not worked here for 2 years. We don't, nor have we ever had waitstaff, and if customers do leave us tips they are used to purchase meat for 2 area food banks. Merry Christmas.
