This café is right out of Mayberry. Breakfast all day, charbroiler specials for lunch and dinner of the sort short-order cooks can turn out blind-folded. The day we were there, liver and onions was the dinner special. It's THAT kind of place. But we were only there for lunch, and we had hamburgers which they do very very well. The patties are fresh-ground on the premesis (you can taste the extra quality), hand-formed and then char-broiled to a fine, dark crust--for me, burger nirvana. Great service from Meghan, too! Great coffee, too.

The food was good, but we've had much better fish n' chips and chowder. Our server was friendly. We sat outside on the large patio, but the constant traffic didn't enhance the ambience.

We stopped there today for lunch and were very disappointed. 40 minutes before we got menus. Finally got our orders in and told the server that we were in a bit of a hurry. We were told it was an easy order and it would literally be minutes. Waited another 30 minutes and finally asked for our order to go. They got it boxed up and we paid and left. Some time later when we went to eat the takeout order, we were missing a meal. I called the restaurant and asked them to adjust the bill and they were totally confusing and rather rude about the whole deal. I finally just told them to keep their money and hung up. The food was fair at best. The clam chowder was terrible. What a bunch of turkeys.

A few of us met at 13moons for Happy Hour. They have rooftop dining and there are plenty of fireplaces to keep warm on chilly nights. Although, they don't serve food at the fireplace or fire pits. The views are beautiful looking over the north valley and I was amazed watching a freight train full of tankers with oil heading wherever over the rotating tresses bridge which caters to both boat traffic and train traffic. My friend and I both had the sliders with shoestring potatoes. There were two to an order and very large, they didn't skimp on anything. My other friend had the Mac and Cheese which again, was plentiful even leaving some behind there was so much. Two of us had cocktails and they had a nice pour to our delight. I actually wanted a martini, but for some reason they couldn't accommodate on the Happy Hour Menu, so I ordered a vodka with a splash of olive juice and it was perfect. The restaurant inside was beautiful and meant for fine dining. The regular menu looked excellent and a great place for a nice meal. Next time I'm in town we will be back!Thank you for taking the time to write a five-star review. Unfortunately, our happy hour drinks are based on speciality drinks which is why they were not able to accommodate. We are happy to hear you enjoyed our newly renovated patio as well as our breathtaking views and hope to have you back again soon!

The Brown Lantern Ale House

A late running ferry from the islands lead us to the unhappy discovery that most(?) restaurants in Anacortes seem to close at 8:30 or 9pm. An online search for “late night dining” (we're talking 8:55pm here...) led us to the Brown Lantern. What a happy accident! Discovered a very friendly tavern/restaurant (one part of the dining room is all ages) with very good burgers and great service. They won Best Tavern & Best Burger in 2019’s Best of Anacortes and I can see why. The Lamb Burger was tasty & perfectly cooked & bacon cheeseburger was deliciously messy. Interior is lots of dark wood, sort of sports bar meets old timey saloon. Excellent beer selection with lots of small brewery options. The two staff members we met were friendly, funny & welcoming. Now that we know about this place, we will head for it as a first choice when traveling thru Anacortes.

Took a day trip to Anacortes and by happenstance parked on the street beside Calico Cupboard. As we walked by to begin our journey down Main Street spotted the many great dishes those on the patio were enjoying (especially the huge cinnamon buns). We made up our minds then to come back to enjoy lunch here. A number or offerings on the menu to fit every taste, use of local products and some organic features. All dishes large portions and excellent quality. Great service provided by all in the restaurant, not just your server looking after you. Check out the bakery display case when you go.

We had a younger visitor, who has travelled far and wide in her three decades of life upon this planet. A well-educated, resilient & resourceful young woman, she was in town on a three day assignment to assess the environmental impact of a local industry. I knew that her-nibs had druthers about what she ate. Turns out she is both a fish-eater & a vegetarian. YAY! Me too!So, I fretted over where to take her, because the Navigator no longer likes the most famous fish restaurant in town. Since she was staying at "the tower" downtown, I thought a stroll across the street to ADRIFT might be acceptable. We no sooner reached the front doors of Adrift that I was able to point to the menu items offered. LOTS OF WILD SEAFOOD on the regular menu. I also knew they usually had several nightly specials. So, in we went. Even though we did not have a reservation at 5:15 PM, we were welcomed warmly and seated appropriately for the Navigator and I (who are in need of adequate padding and space), and for our younger wilderness woman (who would have been just as comfortable sitting on the edge of a granite cliff, high up in the Rocky Mountains). Our server came promptly and was both patient and helpful as she described several offerings of libations that evening. AHA!!! Spire Mountain Cider was one of the options. Mountain Woman and I chose the cider. The Navigator was watching his waist line--just water for him. Then, the task of choosing our dinners. Wild fish--some local, some from Alaska. Wild ALASKAN COHO would be perfect for all three of us. Mountain Woman & I both ordered the Baked Coho. The Navigator ordered Blackened Salmon.I always make sure any fish I order is thoroughly cooked right through. I cannot eat "seared" fish that has barely touched the inside of a hot fry pan, nor can I stomach sushi. Raw fish is for sea mammals, not yours truly. Our baked WILD Coho Salmon came with dark green & still crunchy broccolini & mushroom risotto. The Navigator's Blackened WILD Coho came with sautéd spinach and some kind of potato cake (he wasn't sure what it was, but ate it as if he liked it just fine). My entré was really good! We were chatting quite a bit over dinner, so I wasn't able to concentrate 100% on the food, as I usually do when it is just the Navigator and I eating. We are SERIOUS EATERS! Our entire focus is usually upon THE FOOD.But our young dining companion was such a delight to chat with, that even the wonderful food on our plates did not hold our undivided attention. Nevertheless, it sure was tasty!!!!! The baked ALASKAN COHO SALMON was perfect--not mushy as some frozen salmon becomes once it is thawed and cooked. My WILD SALMON was both densely textured and yet it flaked with a light touch of my fork. The herb topping was both subtle and savory. A lingering sense of well satiated appetites settled upon all three of us, by the time our server came by to remove our dinner plates. Any dessert, she inquired? (Well, I should say so, thought I!) She brought back three dessert menus for us to look at while she quietly cleared the rest of our table. There were some great options that I would have loved to try, prior to developing a finicky GI track---curses! But--there it was---LOPEZ ISLAND ICE CREAM. The very BEST ICE CREAM in the entire world! Of course! So that's what all three of us ordered.Mountain Woman was suitably impressed with ADRIFT too! Good thick bread & butter to nibble on while sipping her Spire Mountain cider, a great wild salmon entré,and then a bowl of Lopez Island's best. I am always proud of what Anacortes has to offer any visitor---be they here on business or pleasure. And, ADRIFT Restaurant never disappoints us! The food is so darn good; the memory of it lingers long upon the tongue and even longer in memory. No wonder we keep going back! Again & again.

We selected this restaurant because the menu had an interesting entree for a vegetarian. We were surprised and disappointed to find that the menu had changed and there were no vegetarian entrees. Fortunately, the chef was willing to make a pasta primavera, which was prepared with a very nice, light sauce. The Bibb lettuce salad was pretty and delicious. Strip steak (for the carnivore spouse) atop mashed potatoes and mushrooms was excellent. The bottle of Italian red was so-so, even for a restaurant wine. We really enjoyed the meal and the evening, and would return if we are in Anacortes again, but only if there is a vegetarian option on the menu.

Everybody hyped this restaurant up so much we saved it for last thinking it can’t be that great. But it was it measured up on every level. The wait staff was fantastic and very professional. The environment although a bit noisy was superb. Food was delicious beautifully presented and although it was a little slow it was worth the wait. You must have reservations and it’s worth it. If you’re only going to go to one restaurant in town this is the restaurant to go to.
