Things to do in Alvarado
Great food. Low prices. Located next to Shell at exit 24 I35W. Featuring Street Tacos with a homemade salsa bar; Grilled Chicken dinner; Tortas; Fajitas; Angus Burgers with fries and so much more!!!
Exit I35 before the Alvarado exit going north and itâs right there in the gas station. (Shell?) The Long John Silvers sign is still up but John is gone. This is about really good dishes, not about the place. Itâs clean but sort of a dive. But the food. Oh my! Fresh cooked, generous portions and flavorful. The fajitas were outstanding with fresh made tortillas. Mama couldnât do better. Close your eyes and give it a try. Weâll be back. Thank you! We are looking forward to your next visit!!Jeannie

This was one of our go to places to eat in the area .Always good food and great serviceHave no idea what has happened but it has really become a flopWe drove over about 7 in the eveningGo in and see a child at a table and a waitress and cookShe comes to see what we would haveto drink and then has this child bring it to usWe order and are told we are out of that ,sorry we do not have that ,well we can only give you this with no gravy . Finally ,it was what do you have We placed our order and after a bit it arrives I finally hld my glass up in show of a refill and the waitress comes and gets our glassesAgain this 8-10 y/o runs over to her nad says let me do it He never washed his hands and this whole time had been playing and drawingHe brings them back We continue our meal and notice the waitress going outside .She startes sweeping the front ,she finishes comes back picks up the floor mat and carries it out and shakes it off and brings it back in.She lays it down ,wipes her hands on her uniformand walks over and takes our glasses and goes and does a refill againAt that point we made teh decision we would not be back .This had been the 3rd time that either service or food or both were badThey have another place in a town down the road and it has gotten the same wayA great place has fallen
Was in Alvarado on business for several days and used the Chicken Express drive-thu frequently as dining options are limited in this small town. The food is quick and good for a chain - regional in focus but pretty well done. Service ok.
We had dinner here one evening during our stay. It was great. The owner's father was helping out that night....and he was just a hoot. A great guy. We just loved visiting with him and he was quite helpful. A great meal...and great friends.

Food was ragingly mediocre. Flat iron steak was ok, but sides were tasteless and dessert, banana pudding, was unrecognizable. Someone had simply dumped Jello brand instant, artificially banana-flavored pudding in a jar, added one slice of a banana and served it! No vanilla wafers, no merangue, no nothing. To add insult to injury, food was overpriced as well.

My husband and I tried the Teriyakiâhe had the combo plate, and I had the chicken plate for lunch. Came with salad, noodles and rice, and SUCH good teriyaki! We also loved the background music and the atmosphere. Donât be put off by the exterior. Itâs not a used car lot...It really is a great little local place for good food!
