Ajo, Arizona is a small, sleepy town with very few restaurant options. There are only a handful of eateries with limited menus and limited opening times. There is a Mexican restaurant next to the Pizza Hut parking lot that is modest in size. Otherwise, Pizza Hut is the hot dining spot in Ajo.Pizza Hut restaurants long closed in my area and they are all take-out now so it was nice to step back in time and visit an old style Pizza Hut restaurant. They have a pizza and pasta menu and a small salad bar. It was pretty much just OK and nondescript. Service was OK. I could see two young guys making pizzas and putting on the toppings and not wearing gloves so that bothered me a bit.It was totally just OK but again eating options are limited in Ajo so Pizza Hut is big time.
Oasis Coffee sits in the middle of the Ajo plaza, in the heart of the Sonoran desert. An unexpected gem, Oasis Coffee is truly an oasis in the desert offering delicious espresso beverages, coffee, teas, baked good, and quick bites for breakfast and lunch.
I was visiting with friends and the Oasis ended up our meeting point. We came back three times during the day to discuss our plans. They were generous with visitors drinking bottled water and soft drink and using the bathroom. It is cool and I love the checkerboard floors. Although we literally came in to get out of the heat, they seemed fine that we did not order much. I only found two food items for lunch and breakfast each. So they are literally a coffee shop. In September, it was warm enough to need the cool break, but the lovely plaza around the city square of Ajo is a deep shady covered walk wide enough for double tables and chairs. All winter it must be buzzing. We met and chatted with locals who were remarkably friendly and informative. Lovely. Small and homey.
They had a big chalkboard advertising their special of the day when we arrived at 11:40 a.m. for lunch. They were out. It wasnât even lunch time yet! They left that board up over an hour before taking it down after telling everyone there was no more. I had a chicken quesadilla which came out deep fried. Iâve never seen that before. There was no salsa or sour cream or anything else with it. My husbandâs blue cheese salad, on the other hand, looked delicious. They need to hire additional help. They were so slow taking our order, bringing the food, writing the check, and cashing us out.
We happened upon this funky little spot thinking it was Estrella but apparently itâs Desert Rain on weekends. Which turned out to be delightful!A limited menu, locally sourced, Native American style foodThere was a small printed menu as well. My husband had tepary bean and cheese quesadillas. Also tepary bean hummus It was all deliciousThey also sell some jarred sauces and jam

The Agave Grill is amazing check it out! We serve a diverse verity of fresh dishes, abundant with bold flavors truly unique to our grill hidden in the beautiful desert town of Ajo Arizona.
Not much choice in Ajo. We ended up at Agave Grill. The menu is standard and food was average. But what made it better for us was the place is new, clean and neat inside. And even better, the owner is hands on, running the place and waiting on us. Stopped to chat and give us a bit of background on the town. Saw that with others that stopped in as well, not just us.

Grannymacs is the perfect stopping point for lunch when travelling from the Tucson and Phoenix areas heading to, or from, Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point), Mexico. Also, it is just north of Organpipe National Park. Each year we stop on our way to and back from Rocky Point. The menu is concise with ample selections of American standards and Mexican offerings. Fresh and tasty and very appealing appearance. Once tasted all beliefs as to the quality and freshness are confirmed. The service staff are very pleasant and efficient.Diligent staff attend to all the needs of our large group of 12.
