Reviews on American food in Abilene, Texas, United States. Abilene boasts a proud military history, having been home once to a U.S. Army base and later a U.S. Air Force base, which remains its primary employer. The city boasts numerous green spaces as well as an impressive zoo representing hundreds of species of animals. Look around and there is always something to do, with two annual rodeos, several outdoor festivals and conferences throughout the year.

Joe Allen's Pit Bar B Que

We went to Abilene for the ACU Sing Song show. Having steaks and BBQ at a famous restaurant in the heart of Big Country was a great way to kick off our weekend. We sat in the bar area off the main dining room where memorabilia of H. Joseph Allen’s undefeated (nineteen consecutive wins) race horse Peppers Pride papers the walls. The venue and clientele were entertaining. You order your ribeye by thickness (3/4-inch and up) and how you want it cooked. Other entrees include BBQ, chicken, and fish. The spices used in cooking the steaks are for sale in downtown stores. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. My steak was heavy with salt and pepper, with warm pink center just as I asked for. Meat was tender and tasty. There is a variety of side dishes including baked potato and salads. My wife had chopped brisket with BBQ sauce. The serving was large, a plateful of food, and the brisket and sauce flavorful. I tried their apple cobbler for dessert. It is sold in half-pint and pint sizes, with half-pint being right for one normal person after a steak dinner. The cobbler was quite good, with interesting texture to the crust, and plenty of cinnamon spice and sugar on top. The bar has a modest selection of beers and wines. We had a Josh Cabernet, which we knew from home. I recommend Joe Allen’s to anyone who is hungry in Abilene.

We discovered this pizza restaurant while passing through Abilene. It is in a distinctive building in the downtown area. The pizza is wonderful, we had the Bella. It was individually cooked to perfection in an oven at the end of the bar, where we were seated. Mouthwatering and delicious, and the beer was most excellent, too. Service was outstanding (thanks Kalli). A very nice respite during a long road trip. We’re so fortunate that Kalli takes such good care of us. Glad you got to meet her and thrilled you enjoyed your quick stop in Abilene. Safe travels!

Just enough variety for the large family. We brought our bunch (15) and no one was disappointed. Skeet has been around for years in west Texas and always has a great menu of freshly-made dishes from burgers to steaks, Tex-Mex to salads, chicken to fish. The staff is always friendly and accomodating.

The hamburgers are awesome. The fries homemade not something out of a bag. i had the Lucy Burger and my colleague the Green Chile Burger and Tater Tots. My burger was huge and the paddy was fresh ground meat not something frozen. The fries were cut from fresh potatoes. Lucy's is excellent. We had ice cream which was very good as well. The staff was very friendly and professional. Well worth the visit for a good quality burger and fires. Well worth the price. The only detraction is the buns are a little on the sweet side.

I've been several times, including a birthday dinner back in February of this year. Most recently, went to brunch maybe 3 weeks ago. It's never been perfect, but it's still always been good.Waitstaff sometimes takes a while to get to you, but that's because it's been packed every time I've been. When they do get to you, they're very helpful and nice, willing to do anything to make sure your meal is right.Once a cocktail was just too strong for me, they replaced it without any problem. Occasionally, I'll order something that isn't quite what I expected, but it's always still good, except that first time there, the tea-brined chicken was a little too salty. Sides and dessert were still fantastic. My personal favorite menu item is the steak diane, great with the potatoes and green beans (still have a little crunch to them, not mushy, taste excellent) or subbed with asparagus instead of the beans. The sauce is just amazing, and my steak has always been tender, well worth the money spent.Brunch menu is good, but limited. I just wish I wasn't lactose intolerant so I could try the french toast. Also, my dad says that chicken fried steak is good, and that's pretty much his standard for whether or not the place is a good one.I understand that in the beginning there were some issues with waitstaff. Well, those reviews seem to be from pretty early on, and now the place is absolutely amazing. I always look forward to my next trip back. It's pricey, but worth it.(The only issue I ever have had there has been caused by fellow customers being annoying by being obnoxiously loud or crowding a bit into my space on the patio.)

We all ordered the Abilena rib-eye. $37 each! "Well marbled" means 40% fat. Grilled asparagus & jalapeno poppers were excellent. Salads were good. No bread with meals. Beers & margaritas were pricey. Frozen margaritas were bluish & not very tasty. Draft beers were cold & good. Good restaurant, but I won't be back.

Copper Creek Restaurant

I made a reservation well in advance for my daughter's graduation dinner in their private area as I had seen the ratings reflecting a 5 start, plus I had been here twice for company luncheons. Graduation ended earlier than anticipated. With this being a 5 start their should always be some anticipation for the unexpected especially during graduation weekend where you have 3 high schools graduations (many ppl in town). I had several conversations with the manager regarding time as I really was not for sure what to expect as this was my first graduation in Abilene. I had made my reservation for 5 pm as I was informed it would be about 3 hours. I called and spoke to the manager stating that graduation ended earlier than anticipated and wanted to know if we could come in prior to 5 which he confirmed would be ok. My family arrived between 4:30 and 4:45. I had requested 2 appetizers, one on each table but ended up with a total of 4 due to the number of family members, which were not cheep. The food was good, however some came out cold. What I would like to emphasize is the service was the worst for a 5 start rating and mind you my family and I spent quite a bit of money on food. The private room accommodates 30 ppl and we had 28. I still gave a full 15% minimum. We had no servers designated for the private room, we had to wait long periods of time to only have to ask for refills on drinks. Then having to wait to place our orders. It took about 30 minutes it seemed for everyone to get their tickets long after we completed our meals, then took about another 30 before we received our cc back due to an issue where all tickets were applied military discount in error. So we waited and waited until all but one ticket was reversed to apply the 10% (this we found out after a family member asked what was taking soooo long). If an error was made then take accountability but don't make guest wait and wait to correct the issue as we all stand around waiting and wondering where are cc are and wondering what the hold up is. I had family members who were driving back 3 hours. Last but not least it was upsetting to here some excuses and then state you had 4 years to correct the mistakes that were made for my next daughter's graduation. I will not be making any reservations in the next 4 years. This was a HUGE disappointment as I ranted to my family about the restaurant.
