Find out what African restaurants to try in Mombasa. Mombasa, with a population of 900,000, is no sleepy seaside village. Its beachfront hotels appeal to travelers in search of sun, sand and surf, while its Arab, Indian and colonial European heritage makes for a wide variety of sights to see. Can't find a taxi? It is a club adding a new dimension to Mombasa's social scene. 'Koroga' means stir or cook in Swahili, and this is what you can do at Koroga country club. Sit in the privacy of your banda and show off your Koroga skills. The a la carte which has a good va
Karoga currently seems to be the most popular Gathering Hole to quench your thirst in the evening after "Baada Ya Kazi". There is ample parking and various sitting types available mostly open which is a welcome break from the typical closed sitting rooms. The place offers Kibanda type of sitting for " Karoga" (means to MIX) where a group of people can cook their own food on JIKO's ( charcoal stoves). All the spices, vegetables (chopped), utensils are provided by the placle. Visited the place multiple times during my visit but did not get a chance to really check out the food menu. Finally lots of chilled Beer available which is also served in Chilled Glasses.

This gourmet restaurant specialises in seafood and is open daily from 1930hrs to 2230 hrs. All â Inclusive and Full Board passengers qualify for a 50 percent discount, while Half Boarders get 25 percent off the food listed prices. Booking is required, and
The food at the restaurant was good, but took a long time to arrive - more than 30 minutes from the time we ordered. The lobster was tasty, but the consistency of the meat was like one where the lobster has been frozen. If you are paying by card, you will have to walk all the way to the hotel reception to settle the bill. A big plus for non seafood lovers / those allergic to sea food, is that you can order from the other (Italian) restaurant menu, and be served at Smugglers.

Google "Island Dishes" and you will see it listed on the Lonely Planet website. It is also on the Google Maps of Mombasa and is a top pick in the current edition of Rough Guide Kenya.
If you want to taste authentic and traditional,as good as home made food then this is the place to be.I have tried their meat, chicken and fish birianis and they are superb! The muhogo( cassava cooked in coconut )is awesome!not forgetting the Samaki wa kupaka(fish grilled with coconut).Next time I'm on those sides would love to try the lobster!and to crown it all their prices are super pocket friendly!

Quiet place perhaps overhauled by its younger neighbours.Pleasant enough for old people (wazees) but the younger set would much prefer the Anuba,Hypnotique etc.The beer is cold, the 80s tunes are nice and one could relax quietly here. The location is certainly very good too.
best food in qaffee point restaurant, It's a weekend vibe at Qaffee POINT. Drop by and experience some quality food time.
This redifines fine dining in Mombasa. There has never been a place in Mombasa like this. From the luxurious chic decor to the quality of the food and service. A well deserved place in Mombasa.I have been there several times and to all the coffee houses in Mombasa (yes, there are other decent ones), however this is by far, the best one on the coast. The seating area, especially in the basement, is comfortable and homey. The food quality and service meets all standards. The owner is also very polite and greets you at the front. They also offer a wide range, full meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), including dessert. A must visit for anyone in Mombasa. Pricing is also decent, and not as expensive as the other other places in Mombasa. It would normally be perceived to be a coffee house, however they take it to another level. If you ever want an all in one experience, this is the place to be. Gone are the days when you would have to visit a Restaurant and a Dessert place separately. You can get the full experience here. I would definitely visit this place again and highly recommend it to anyone who wants a great experience of food and dessert under one roof.

Great place to relax, they show sports on a lot of different screens. So pick your game and sit down in that section of the bar. The food is mediocre, although I had an African Beef Stew that was delicious. The following chapati was fresh and tasteful. One of the best chapatis I've had in Kenya. Worth a visit.
great variety of foods, desserts are amazing, and the Chefs go out of their way especially if you have specific food requirements.

The location & view are all this restaurant has going for it. Its certainly not the food. I went there at lunchtime. After waiting a good 45 mins the food arrived. The food was pre cooked & from the freezer, not only that but it wasnt even properly defrosted in the microwave & it was still cold in parts. I had to send it back, staff weren't interested & it was microwaved again & returned to me. I spent the next 24hrs plus very ill. Be warned don't eat hear!

So this was our restaurant for breakfast and dinner during our stay at Sarova Whitesands. It can get every busy at times especially when whole sections are blocked off for corporate bookings for hours on end.Overall the buffet food was Ok. The swahili breakfast being the stand out items for us. The Swahili lunch by the beach was also very good.

Traveling with colleagues who had not been to Mombasa one had to take them to the tamarind. Sadly I think the standards have dropped. The sea food was nothing special. The service slow and far from courteous. But embarrassing actually after having promoting the place solidly all day. If you have to go to say you have been do so but donât expect anything special. Dear William, Thank you for taking the time to review. We are really regret that your dining experience did not meet with your high expectations and you were actually embarrassed after promoting the restaurant to your colleague. It is most unfortunate that the sea food was nothing special and that you found the service slow and discourteous. We are sorry that we obviously fell way short of our customer service mark which is to provide the best for each and every one of our guests, and it is only through feedback such as yours that we are able maintain and indeed where necessary improve upon the services that we provide. Your comments have been shared with the team and the issues you mentioned will be addressed. Kind regards Geraldine
