Reviews on African food in Hartbeespoort, Madibeng, North-West Province. Hartbeespoort, informally also known as "Harties", is a small resort town in the North West Province of South Africa, situated on slopes of the Magaliesberg mountain and the banks of the Hartbeespoort Dam. The name of the town means "gateway of the hartbees" (a species of antelope) in Afrikaans. It was previously known as Schoemansville, named after General Hendrik Schoeman, a Boer General in the Anglo-Boer War, who owned the farm that the Hartbeespoort Dam was built on.
Things to do in Hartbeespoort
One of our ultimate favourite lunch spots must be Almost Orange in Hartbeespoort. This gem is on the same premises/part of the very well-known Silver Orange Bistro. We actually haven't visited Silver Orange Bistro before, because we just keep driving past to get to Almost Orange. This part of the premises used to be utilised as a function/wedding venue, but a couple of years ago the decision was made (yay!) to have a separate eatery here, and open it up to more foot traffic/customers. It truly feels as if you are spending time "Under The Tuscan Sun", surrounded by an orange orchard. This time of the year the orchard is a beautiful sight of green and orange, so it makes the experience even more special. Almost Orange has got a concise menu, featuring mainly sharing platters. But don't fret, you will find a platter that will satisfy your cravings. Our standard order is the Mediterranean Platter (Marinated olives, Roasted peppers, Marinated artichokes, Hummus, Tapenade, Sun dried tomato pesto, Greek feta and Ciabatta) with an order of the most delicious Panzanella salad you've ever tasted. Their winelist features a few wines that you probably won't find in the immediate vicinity , as well as a few imported Portuguese wines. This is the perfect spot for a long and lazy lunch with friends, we just keep going back for more. No children under 16 allowed. Ambience:â¯Relaxed outside seating, on the patio for the sunseekers or under the trees for people like me Service: Friendly, efficient Menu Variety: Mainly platters, but lots of vegetarian and banting options available if that is your vibe Food: Fresh, delicious, perfect for sharing Drinks:â¯A good wine menu, as well as an extensive gin selection. Beer and cocktail lovers should find something to their taste.
They offer the best Boerekos while viewing the old carriages and wagons. Very friendly atmosphere where you can sit and enjoy the warm hospitality. Very highly recommended for everyone who wants a memorable outing with the family. Bikers are welcome, they must just book e.g. for breakfast so that they can be prepared for the amount of people.
