I love Shagga's vegetarian platter. It's always tasty and I'm always very full when I'm done. There's friendly service every time I go and I'm always seated quickly. The parking lot is small and can barely accommodate the clientele, but that doesn't seem to deter anyone. Shagga also offers carry-out for anyone who does not wish to stay. The location is easy to find. It's just north of the Hyattsville Arts District on Route 1 (and south of the Route 1/Route 410 intersection). It's also a 5-10 minute drive from the University of Maryland (depending on which part of the UMD campus you're coming from).

My son brought me to this restaurant as one in his neighborhood that he frequented. Servings were plentiful, and our choices were tasty. As a family with Sierra Leonean background, there was some familiarity with the offerings but also flavors distinct from what we knew. All in all a good choice.

You will recall, gentle reader, that I am an unsophisticated rube from Southwest Virginia. I rarely venture beyond standard fare, but I was delighted to try this "exotic" restaurant in the nation's capital. The restaurant is elegant without being stuffy, and the artwork is interesting. We were a trifle late for our reservation, but the gentle hostess seated us immediately. Our waitress was attentive and kind-if a bit slow in bringing our check. My meal, beef tips, was delicious, and I particularly enjoyed the bread. The bread is difficult to describe. It is sweet with the consistency of ...a paper towel. You can roll like it like a soft taco to enclose your fare or you can consume it by itself. My Ethiopian beer was also very good. I rated the value as average because it was somewhat expensive.
