We passed this restaurant while walking around Bergerac's historic area, and tired of "regional cooking" after more than 2 weeks touring southwestern France, we returned for lunch. We were very glad we did. The restaurant was excellent, especially the homemade flat breads, very puffed up when fresh from the oven. We've eaten at many "Indian" restaurants in the U.S., as well as Spain, England, and Ethiopia, and the Jardin de Kashmir was among the most enjoyable.

We spent one evening at Bergerac a couple of weeks ago. Having been in France for nearly a fortnight, we fancied a change from the traditional French cuisine. Our first choice restaurant, that was just across the road from our hotel was closed that evening and we wanted to recce the route to the station, in advance of our departure the following day. Having walked to the station we realised that we were not in the nicest part of town. We were both hungry by now so instead of traipsing back into the downtown area we decided to give the Fontaine de Jade a try despite there being no other diners in the restaurant at the time. This restaurant was directly across the road from the main station entrance. The lady who ran the restaurant invited us to sit outside in the yard at the rear of the building. In terms of food, we would have preferred a 'formule' set meal but this was not offered on the menu so we had to go a la carte. I have eaten a lot of Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese and the food was a sort of fusion of these three cuisines. I had chop suey but it was not like any I have eaten before. My wife had a salad. In actual fact, both were superb. A very pleasant surprise! When the bill arrived, we thought it to be quite reasonable. The Fontaine de Jade is certainly worth a visit!

Estuvimos una noche para cenar. No sé si justo fuimos el peor dÃa de los cocineros, pero probablemente sea el peor sushi que he probado nunca. Completamente insipido, todos los makis me supieron igual, o sea a nada. No lo puedo recomendar

This is one of two surviving Japanese restaurants in Bergerac and long may it last. Informal to the point tat you may end up chatting with the young daughter of the owners, the quality of the food is excellent. Made on the premises, the fish is of the highest quality and the prices very reasonable. You can order by pictures if you are not sure what is what and you can be assured of good service. We have been going for years and we always order our Christmas sushi from here. Great value and great food.

My travelling companion and I decided to seek an alternative to the local cuisine of Foi Gras, Duck and Gizzards (You can only have so much of a good thing in a week) and had noticed Perle d'Asie while walking back to our hotel from the town. It was also open on a day when many others were closed so we gave it a try. We were given a warm welcome, presented with a varied menu and when the language barrier defeated us the owner's husband was summoned to translate. The service was quick and attentive, the food was very tasty and the bill was reasonable. While we were there a couple of people came to collect takeaways. Having found this restaurant we went back for another meal while we were in Bergerac.
