Authentic traditional house. Wonderful views, garden, vineyard and very attractive architectural features.
We bumped into this lovely guesthouse and garden, by wandering through the authentic streets of Berat. Attracted by the beautiful garden, with grape plants, we were welcomed by the owner Lorenc to have some home made wine. Lorenc is running this guesthouse together with his family since many years. During our drinks, we talked about things in life, Albania and politics. You noticed quickly that holding this guesthouse together with his family and meeting people from all over the world is something he cares about a lot! Everything he does for the guests, seems to come from the heart :-) Not only we had a great conversation, we listed to him singing and playing on the guitar and after he showed us the charming 400y old house. The guesthouse feels like home, with such a warm family and experience!

I didn’t stay at Maya but I did do their Osumi Canyon + Bogove Waterfall tour which was fantastic. We left at 9 and headed out of Berat towards Osumi Canyon stopping at a number of excellent photo viewpoints along the way. We had a refreshing break in the water for 90 mins or so - swimming, walking and relaxing in the sun. Remember to look up so that you can see the beauty of the canyon! I preferred swimming on my back to do this. Life jackets can be provided. Afterwards we shared a yummy Albanian lunch before hiking (very easy) to the Bogova waterfall for another short swim. This tour is really a great and refreshing day out on a hot day. For the tour you’ll need swimwear, shorts and tshirt, camera, suncream, and hiking boots/trainers. Water shoes are provided if you don’t have your own. If you can - get your size or a size smaller- mine kept falling off in the water as they were too big. The tour is 35 euros or 4300 LEK Tours can be booked the day before but need a minimum of four people. There’s also an evening wine tour which I heard really good things about. Miri (the owner) also organised a bus for us to go to Gjirokaster the next day which was super handy - he’s a great guy and super helpful/funny.

Hostel Mangalem in a UNESCO World Heritage site with a Tier 1 attribute. The Tier 1 status ensures a property to be rebuilt to it's exact, historical proportions and structure. Hostel Mangalem is in a central location in Berat, Albania’s UNESCO World Heritage site. We are below the 2,400 year old castle, Berati Castle, overlook the Osumi River, and at the beginning of the town’s boulevard. Hostel Mangalem is situated in front of the Osumi River, below Berati Castle, at the start of Berat’s boulevard of shops and restaurants/cafes, and daily Albanian life. Additionally tours into hiking areas are available 10 meters away and museums and novelties are less than 1-5 minutes by foot. Enjoy! Our amenities are 3 rooms holding 9 bunk beds, 4 shared bathrooms throughout the hostel, a kitchen, living room, 2 balconies (one grand), a courtyard, and stone path to relax on and observe Albanian culture as it passes by.
We stayed at the hotel for two nights. Has a wonderful time. Great location within Berat's most charming area, extremely pleasant atmosphere, very kind service, good food. Bottom line: Warmly recommended! (as for covid, we ourselves wore masks when walking around, and the restaurant is with open windows and roof and the tables are well-spaced.)
