Book 3 rooms for a family vacation. Nice place(outdoor) to spend with family. But the hotel rooms definately needs an upgrade. Breakfast is quite bland per say. They need to control quality. Check in to dirty bed sheets and blankets on arrival, definately a mood killer. But they are nice enough to change for us.

We stayed for two nights with Kae and Efi’s family at their lovely homestay Kaesa. Their hospitality was incredible!! Delicious local breakfasts, super clean rooms, comfortable beds, hot water, super convenient location and incredible view of Berastagi. Kaes thorough information and tips for our stay made sure we saw lots of sights and enjoyed plenty of local experiences. Highly recommend staying here, thanks again!!

Hotel Sibayak Internasional (HIS) is a 4-star resort situated in the highlands of Berastagi, 65 kilometers or 1.5 to 2 hours by car from Medan, the provincial capital city of North Sumatera,Indonesia. We are on a 3.6-hectare land right on the foothills of Gundaling. Temperature ranges from a cool 18 to a sunny 26 degrees Celsius year-round. Berastagi was established in the past as a Dutch colonial hillstation and an escape from the tropical heat.
A hotel in need of updating and renovation. First room was dirty, especially under the bed (old slippers, thick dust ... didn’t look further!). Upgraded to 2nd room. Bigger, cleaner but smelled of old socks! Woken in the middle of night by cats having a huge fight in the corridor outside my room. Cat poo on corridor carpet in the morning. Also, music playing through speakers in the corridor all night. Lucky I had earplugs. Decent breakfast buffet and nice welcome drink. Brought my own pillow as I’d read reviews that pillows were thick & solid; they weren’t wrong.

We checked in at the same day in another hotel, which we left quickly. Luckily we found Sapo Karo, we went their to aski for a room and Erwin (Manager) and Adi helped us with their car to get our bags from the hotel where we run away from. We choosed Sapo Karo because they speak English and can Help with tours, Transfers and all questions coming up for travelers. We booked also the transfer to Kuala Namu Medan Airport, we had to leave at 4 in the morning but as promised everything went well. Rooms are clean, breakfast is done by ADIS wife which was great, we were treated like familymembers and had a really great time their!!!! Really recommendable!!!

I paid 375.000 Rp. for three days, so 125.000 Rp. per night. We got a room with a good bathroom (western style toilet, hot shower, rinsing tube next to the toilet, and a sink and mirror). The bed was comfortable and clean, from our window we could see the mountains. There was a table, two wall outlets, and a stainless steel dustbin, and some place to hang your clothes.

I stayed for 2 nights in August 2018 and found the property to be charming and full of character. I paid around IDR 450000 per night which I find to be very good value for the quality of accommodation. The room is spacious & clean, the bed is very comfortable (they even have a bolster!). However, it was difficult to work the heater in the bathroom. You need to switch it on & off repeatedly for like 5 minutes before you get hot water and the water pressure is very low. The views from the restaurant and reception area is lovely. Breakfast comes with the room, It is not buffet style and you get to order one dish for breakfast. I tried the local options (Nasi Soto & Lontong) on both mornings. Although limited variety for breakfast, both dishes were delicious. One morning, I went for a hike on Mount Sibayak and came back only at 11am but they were still able to make arrangements for a late breakfast for me. The staff are friendly & attentive, they also made recommendations to my driver on where to visit in the surrounding area. The owners of the hotel also operate Cafe Jabu, the coffee there is very good and it's a great place to hangout and chill. If I ever return to Berastagi, I would very likely stay at this property again.
