Find out what Sushi restaurants to try in Baguio. Baguio, perched high in the Cordillera Central Mountains, is a great place to escape the heat of the Philippine lowlands. Camp John Hay, originally built as a recreation area for U.S. soldiers, now is a full-fledged resort complete with a world-class golf course. Definitely stop at the city market, where you can buy almost anything (just be prepared to haggle).

Nothing endorses a Japanese restaurant more than seeing actual Japanese diners. It is refreshing that there was no loud greeting upon entering. You are greeted instead by attentive staff. The place is a converted log cabin with a lot of wood panelling, an actual fire place and high wood beam ceiling. There are only a few tables so making reservations is a must. After ordering, we were given appetizers of young spinach leaves and cooked tuna. The food arrived fast, beautifully plated in unique ceramic plates and bowls. We ordered chirasi, salmon sashimi, sukiyaki, agedashi tofu and nasu, and chicken terikayi. At the end of the meal, we were given complementary mini bowls with tiny scoops of matcha ice cream. What a lovely surprise! We ordered a red bean dessert which had a scoop of matcha and vanilla icecream, with whipped cream and gelatin. Oishi!

We tried the teppanyaki table at Hamada since most of us were looking for a different flavor while in Baguio.Japanese food is not that common in Philippine mountainous areas due to the limited supply of fresh seafood but the choices made available at Hamada did not disappoint. The set teppanyaki menu at Php 2000++ per person is worth it considering the serving size and the quality of the dishes as well as the skill of the teppanyaki chef.

Hodori is now located in the building right next to it's old location. Although the new place seems bigger than the old one, proper ventilation is a big problem. The smoke coming from the kitchen and the food being cooked in the customer's table doesn't have ample exit so you end up inhaling the smoke. There were only two guys serving food to the customers. One of them is actually the juggling duties between serving food and tending to the cashier. Although they're nice, polite and fast moving, i bet additional staff will help improve the service.

We first encountered this restaurant during Panagbenga season in Baguio. They set up a ramen bar along Session Rd and it had a very authentic Japanese feel. I particularly ordered Hell Ramen and I must say this is the best spicy ramen I ever tasted. It had the right amount of spice I was looking for. The noodles tasted good and was not overcooked. The service was very commendable as well. Every staff greeted us with a warm smile. They were very polite and attentive to our needs. Will definitely be back to try other ramen and sushi dishes!

Serves japanese dishes, innovative. Maki rolls can be very oily. Need to improve soup dishes, they offer 2 or 3 choices, and the spicy miso has strong butter taste. Sashimi is good. Has very limited parking space.
