Welcome to a capital city whose story goes back at least 3000 years. In Beijing, you'll find a wealth of history, both ancient (the Hall of Preserving Harmony, Summer Palace, Forbidden City) and more recent (Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, Tiananmen Square). For the best market experience, choose the Dirt Market over the touristy Silk Market. A visit to the Great Wall, the longest manmade structure in the world, is absolutely essential.

I am living in Beijing for a few months, and I wanted to treat myself and a friend to a nice spa experience. While the hotel lobby was grand and the room was comfortable, the separate cost for the pool area was not explained to us when we booked the stay. It cost an additional $100 dollars for us to even enter the pool and hot spring area! This should definitely be indicated on the website, so that we could have made an informed decision. When we did enter the hot springs, we swam around and were quite shocked to discover that giant cockroaches were falling from the trees and onto our heads. The place is infested! When we ventured from our room for dinner, the restaurant was open, but everything was very overpriced. While I do not mind paying higher prices for a quality experience, everything at Longxi (including the $10 potato chips) was VERY costly, apparently because their guests are a captive audience and there is nothing around for miles. I must emphasize that I VERY much wanted to like this place and embrace the experience, but 2 days here will cost a fortune that is only worth it if you are rich as Midas. We enjoyed it as best as we could, but we ended up leaving a day early.

We stayed here 8 nights in October 2017. It's an impressive old hotel. Very varied breakfast... big like! Unfortunately was too difficult to communicate in english with the staff. To understand what I mean, they didn't know what "toillete" means, which is a word so familiar in many languages. Only when I wrote the word "WC" on a paper, a woman of all the staff from reception realized what I meant. But it didn't bother me, it just seemed funny to me. I am a very understanding person wherever I go in this world.

This resort is in a compound away from the busy streets of Beijing and is a nice escape from the City. As others have mentioned, it is a very Chinese-style hotel, with hard beds and limited English, but the rooms are clean and comfortable, morning breakfast selection is decent (though the coffee machine seems to break a lot), the gym and pool area are great, and the surrounding area is a respite from the big city. Internet was spotty and required local phone number for SMS confirmation. We stayed in the Zhi (Purple Jade) resort for one week on business. The pool and gym are a separate health club that is included with your resort reservation. There is an olympic sized pool, modern fitness equipment (cardio machines and cable systems), and a very nice pool lounge/bar area with hot tub (filled with rubber duckies) in the evenings. There are several restaurants within the compound (one Western, one Chinese, and a cafe). Some rooms include a food ticket for up to 200RMB towards meal. The resort also has a free bike rental to bike around the several paths of the property around the lake. There is a random deer sanctuary, a lotus pond, and other hidden treasures around the property to explore. It is quite far from the center of Beijing, but this resort is a good choice if you want to be away from the chaos of the city or have meetings on the 5th/4th ring road or near the Olympic Stadium.

Just steps from the East Gate of the Summer Palace grounds lies Aman at Summer Palace - the ideal location from which to discover Beijing. Housed in a series of pavilions, the resort is only 15km from the Forbidden City. A serene retreat, the property provides easy access to such cultural landmarks as the Great Wall, The Temple of Heaven and the hutongs, as well as Beijing's restaurants, art galleries and other contemporary delights.
The buildings all have a traditional look and feel but the rooms are very comfortable. We were able to experience a traditional Chinese tea ceremony, take a Chinese calligraphy class and eat Peking duck as part of our stay. The breakfast buffet had lots of traditional Chinese items but also some American items as well, all very good. My absolute favorite part of this hotel is that it is on the Summer Palace grounds and there is a secret door that allows hotel guests to enter the Summer Palace before it is even open to the public. We had the most amazing walks on the summer palace grounds early in the morning, and once the park opened we watched people fly kites and dance and toured the many buildings on the grounds. An experience I will never forget.

This was our first resort in Beijing and it was truly beautiful. Our room had an amazingly large spa on the verandah. The bed was a great size and very comfortable. There was a bit of a walk to breakfast though. Food was good, great selection.

Avoid this place at all costs: 1. Too far from Beijing city center - Takes about 1.5~2hrs by cab to travel from this property to the city center such as Wangfujing, Forbidden City etc. If not for the fact that our group was billeted at this place, would have definitely stayed somewhere else. 2. Poor housekeeping, dated rooms - Stayed for 3 nights and the sheets were not changed at all. Neither was the carpet vacuumed before we moved in the room and during our stay. There were visible carpet stains more likely from red wine. Not to mention dust on the desks and night table. Tub was not properly cleaned with strands of hair still present after housekeeping visit. Witnessed guests spitting at the lobby carpet too. :( 3. Inconvenient neighborhood - There is nothing around the area except barren trees and land. The convention center has a mini convenience store on the ground floor but relatively limited choices - mostly local foodstuffs. Nearby shopping center is at least 30~40mins away from the property. 4. Food is below average to average in quality and presentation - Nothing to rave about.

My wife and I have always gotten away for our anniversary. So while living in Beijing we went to the Fengshan Hot spring Resort. One word of caution, if you are a foreigner make sure you bring your passports. We have been living in Beijing now for +6 months and have traveled a lot around Asia but not much with in China. So we figured because we booked online we just show up and there should be no problems. Just like back home right. NOT. We had to go to the local police station to register that we are spending the night. Had we had our passports we wouldn't have had this problem. So if you are a foreigner, bring your passports. Lesson learned. The stay was good. Eat dinner (very Chinesey), slept on a typical hard Chinese mattress. Eat breakfast. Then spent the next 8 hours sitting in various manmade hot springs. I would describe this as a typical Chinese experience that the locals would have. This is what I enjoyed about it. Most it not everyone does not speak English so be patient and just go with the flow. If you are looking for a authentic experience and a good place to get away this is a pretty good place to go.

All in all I had a good stay in a very spacious room. However, I hadn't chosen the hotel myself, it was booked for me as it was the venue of an international event I was attending. Before you consider this hotel you should be aware that: - It is quite far from the airport (min 90 mins by taxi) or a central city location such as Tienanmen Sq (min 90 mins by taxi) - The free wifi is totally useless - Virtually no one speaks English On the plus side: - The breakfast buffet is big and very varied - Rooms are very spacious - Sleep quality is excellent - There are nice grounds for a walk plus a sports centre with hot springs and a spa One final thing: resist the temptation to ask for a room overlooking the pond. I was told by a colleague that the noise that the swans/ducks/geese do throughout the night makes sleeping impossible
