Fredies Fantastic Fishhouse is a small diner located in Bayers Lake Park. We specialize in Fresh Fish and hand cut Fries, Chowder, Fresh Whole Clams, Digby Scallops and Pure Lobster Rolls. We are passionate about providing our Customers with the best service and freshest seafood that Nova Scotia has to offer.
Fredies was on winter vacation, but now they are open again. I was in the mood for a lobster roll, on a sunny afternoon. As I entered, I was greeted with a smile from one of the friendly waitresses. I ordered a simple lobster roll to go, with Fredie’s sauce, no mayo, no fries. It came to $18 and change, taxes in.
I liked it a lot. Actually it was probably one of the best lobster rolls I’ve ever had. There were lots of large chunks of lobster meat, on a bed of tender green lettuce leaves in a fresh roll, with just a touch of dressing on top. It was very tasty and enjoyable, and just the right size for me. Of course, the chunky lobster was the best part!
I was happy that I came. I can highly recommend Fredie’s lobster roll, as well as the friendly waitresses! We are lucky to have this restaurant in Bayers Lake.

Thank goodness I made a reservation for Saturday night. The place was packed and a line up down the stairs. And it was only 6 pm! I was craving pasta puttanesca but it wasn't on the menu. When I mentioned this to the waitress she checked with the cook and was pleased to tell me he would make it for me. Wow!! Fantastic service as well as food!! My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal. For an appetizer we split the stuzzichini which was risotto croquette, salami rolled with fresh mozzarella, flash-fried artichoke, mushroom bruschetta, tomato bruschetta, and prosciutto-wrapped grissini. Almost a meal in itself and plenty for two people. For our main dishes I had Penne Puttanesca and my friend had Penne Salsiccia. Both were $17 each. If you like wine that's where your wallet will take a hit. My friend had an 8 oz glass of Pinot Grigio and the price was $19. If you think you'll want more than one glass be sure to order a 1/2 L. Wonderful dining experience although very chilly sitting by the stairs. Bring a sweater if it is a cold evening. You won't want to let a little chill stop you from enjoying amazing Italian food.

Great place to go for a burger, hotdog, chickenburger (!!), fish, fries, onion rings, etc. The milk shakes are good. Not real thick if you like them that way. They have a jukebox that requires coins to play some tunes. It's great. The Chickenburger is usually busy so be prepared. In the summer there is outside Seating that helps with the business and also an ice cream stand that have LOTS of kinds of ice cream. A single scoop is HUGE by the way!

The food was excellent quality and very tasty. The service was friendly and knowledgeable about the very large menu ( over 600) choices). She recommended the special menu which had the authorite Thai food. We has massoman curry and laar moo, a pork dish. We enjoyed both. We also ordered the deep fried ice cream which was ok. It was different. It was not made with a corn flake coating but with more of a batter. All in all very good experience.

It has been awhile since I was here as I was not impressed with the quality of the food. Decided to see if things have changed and the food really delivered this time on flavour and served piping hot.
I had burger and fries and both were delicious, burger was so good, I did not put any toppings on it. Fries were piping hot and crispy the way they should be.
I hope this is their new trend because everything was excellent

We arrived and we're quickly greeted and seated. Coffee arrived quick as well as our meal once ordered.
I ordered eggs with cheese and pancakes
The food was SO good and the pancakes were some of the best I ever had. The staff was nice and friendly. The food came quick.
One of the best breakfast places I've been to while here so far.
It would have been an easy 5 stars, BUT the coffee was just not good.
For those who don't drink coffee, you'll give it 5 stars, easily. Would deff recommend for the food

This is one of my fav locals. Always busy and food is good. Staff are great. I find though that they have taken some of my fav items off the menu. Smoked meat Sandwich was fantastic. No longer serve it. Please bring smoked meat back. And maybe put a steak on the menu.

Was here with a guy friend and we ordered four sushi rolls and two came as ordered and two were not what we ordered. The service had been very slow so when the food finally arrived we tried to wave the waitress down but with no luck. We ate what we got (we were really hungry) and pointed out the error after. We offered to pay for what we ordered but waitress insisted we would have to pay more because one of the mistake rolls cost more. Whatever. Bad service. Roll were good though

Good variety of freshly made bagels. The homemade cream cheese comes in a number of flavours and all the ones we have tried have been delicious. Our family favourite is the caramel apple cream cheese. Small Seating area but that doesn't matter much as most people take their bagels to go. We come here every few weeks when our freezer supply runs out. Yum!

Café l’Acadie's owner Gary Le Blanc was born into a large Acadian family where both parents hail from the Acadian village of Cheticamp Nova Scotia area and with an enormous extended family, Acadian food, music and culture were the heartbeat of our family life. Our home was the 'gathering place' for friends and relatives. My mother loved to cook and growing up, I could sit for hours and listen to her sing all the old traditional Acadians songs as she scurried about the kitchen cooking. On special occasions, I would watch in amazement at the fiddlers, mandolin and guitar players sitting around the kitchen table, while the rest would sing out loud and strong, Acadian songs of old. With Fricot on the stove, Rappie and Rabbit Pies in the oven and desserts galore, it all fed the soul. Café l’Acadie brings many of these Acadian culinary treasures from my family's kitchen to our dining room to share this rich history of delicious food.
I discovered this place on Trip Advisor when I was Reading other people's reviews. I was very excited to find out there was an Acadian restaurant with Rappie pie, as my friend loves it! I do not like Rappie pie at all, but I was excited to try the dessert.
It is located on the front of the Bluenose Inn, and has an Acadian flag waving, but we still managed to drive by.
They always have two soups in pots, and you are invited to help yourself to a small bowl. The day we visited (Sunday as that is the day they have hot out of the oven Rappie pie), they had chicken fricot and fish chowder. I enjoyed the chicken fricot and my friend said the fish chowder was good. This is complimentary.
I had the Acadian meat pie which came with a small bowl of gravy which I poured on top. I ordered the garden salad for my side. It came with homemade onion poppy seed dressing which tasted so good. I am a total carnivore so I really enjoyed the meat pie. My friend ordered the Rappie pie (as I said before, I'm not a fan) but she said that it tasted just like her mother's and she really enjoyed it. If you are a fan of Rappie pie, then she definitely recommends this place to you. The Rappie pie came with a side salad as well, but my friend declined the salad. All she wanted was the Rappie pie!
Even though I felt quite full, I couldn't resist ordering the pouding chomeur which is an Acadian dessert. It is a white cake with maple syrup that is baked, and it tastes caramelly. I loved it! It had whipped cream on top. I would go down again just for that! My friend ordered the blueberry buckle and said it was delicious.
The portions are very generous. I've never had Acadian food and I really liked what I had. They also serve other things too - the all day breakfast options looked good, and again from looking at other tables, the portions were generous.
As I said before, I would go down again just for the dessert.
