Certainly easy to spot in the dark; just off the main road through Schwangau and lit up like a beacon. Once there, note large car park across the road from the hotel. As it was night when we visited, we didn't really appreciate how attractive the building was. Traditional chalet style with a lot of structural wood, and with a good alpine view.We were not entirely sure how to present ourselves on arrival, so we reported to the hotel reception who then pointed us to the separate restaurant nearby. Plenty of large tables available in what seemed to be a sizeable semi-circular wood and glass conservatory, so we bagged a table for eight to ourselves. Having realised that we were Brits, a charming girl who spoke perfect english was deputed to look after us. As the menus were available in english too, it wasn't a difficult evening. Foodwise, ample alternatives of the robust teutonic variety which was fine by us.I went with the nicely-done pork medallions in a creamy mushroom sauce with schwabing dumplings whilst Mrs EPR exercised the unusual choice of grilled chicken breast in a sweet and sour sauce with spring rolls and wok-fried veg. Plus a bountiful bowl of fries between us. Not a lot left of that lot, I can assure you. Dessert choice equally good; who could refuse an "ice cream cake" - actually more like an ice cream cheesecake. I couldn't, and Mrs EPR's hot chocolate sponge pudding was equally good too.All dishes attractively presented, and efficiently served by the experienced waitresses who, I have to say, looked very fetching in their local costume. So a very successful evening in comfortable surroundings. Would certainly return.

The Schlossbrauhaus is situated close to the castle Neuschwanstein in Schwangau. The atmosphere of the restaurant is a mix between classic bavarian and modern design. The kitchen is typical regional and suits very good to the home made beers. An ideal pla
So much fun and fantastic food! Stayed there for hours eating and drinking, sat outside with a great view of the mountains and the castle. There was an awesome local band playing who bought us shots. Staff spoke English with great recommendations and there was a part of the menu in English. Food was amazing and the beers were even better. Needless to say we were sad to leave.

very good tasty meals on reasonable price and fine Bavarian beer. I would recommend traditional German pork dishes
This is a relatively small place but very pleasant, set alongside a fishing lake with water lillies and nice views. it has both indoor seating and outdoor covered seating. Run by a young couple who are really friendly and produce super, uncomplicated but tasty food. There is a hospital nearby and this place is popular with both staff and patients there, which seems a good recommendation. We visited two or three times in a week and it was the only place where we chose to eat more than once, which must mean something! Great for a relaxing meal at any time of day.

Had just left touring King Ludwigâs castle and on our way back to Garmish. Saw this nice small Gasthof and decided to stop for lunch. It was a small restaurant with only a few locals eating, but since there was a ski slope across the road it is probably busy with skiers during the season. The food was good but not great and the service was good although I think our waitress had a lot on her mind. She seem to be thinking about something else all the time. Anyway this was a pleasant stop and rest with reasonable food and fair a price. Large parking lot for free parking.

We ate there 3 years ago and enjoyed it. It was just as good as we remembered it. They were serving dishes with chanterelle muchrooms and each of us (3 people) ordered a different dish with chanterelles. When they are in season, I recommend ordering dishes with them.

Hut in the Alps in pristine environment. Reached by hike or MTB ride from Parking lot in Halblech (12 km one way). The two girls which run the hut cook very well and bake great cakes! A cold beer outside the hut after a beautiful hike through the Ammergauer Alps does the rest.My favorite place in the area!Opens mid of May, closes end of October.

Good food and a brief lesson in cheese making are the attractions here. Nice view of the surrounding mountains and even a little farm animal petting zoo for children. BE CAREFUL of the surrounding electrified cattle fences!

On our way back from the King's Castle, we were starving as we had skipped lunch to tour the castles. Alpenstuben Buching popped up as a viable option for our very late lunch (or early dinner) as we entered the Bavarian Dorf of Halblech. Alpstuben Buching is a quaint Bavarian Inn that boasts excellent local cuisine and rooms to accommodate weary travelers. The restaurant offers a moderately-priced menu of local dishes. The portions are quite generous and delicious. Simply stated our meals were "lekker." Although the indoor restaurant and bar looked inviting, we opted to enjoy the day outside under one of the umbrella-covered tables. The service was good, and our hosts were very accommodating. I knew what I was doing when I ordered the local Gulasch. I thought it woud be excellent... and it was. The meat was tender, and laden with subtle hints of paprika and majoram. Since I was driving, I limited myself to a few sips of the local beer. Loved it!The outside dining offers an excellent vista of the looming Alps and rolling foothills. Alpenstuben Buching would make for a memorable romantic weekend with someone special. This fine little inn comes highly recommended.
