At the top of Bavaria and dating back to at least the 11th century, Coburg sat undiscovered by many late 20th century tourists, surrounded as it was on three sides by the former East Germany. The town’s main attraction, impossible to miss since it overlooks the town, is the 13th century Veste Coburg Castle, one of Germany’s largest and most beautiful. Sometimes called the Franconian Crown, today it’s home to three museums. Reformer Martin Luther, then an outlaw, spent five months here in 1530.

I saw the waitress delivering a tasty-looking salad to a customer sitting in the outdoor area of the restaurant & it was love at first sight. (the food, not the waitress). We sat inside & I had the Bavarian Wurstsalat. My wife had Schweinekopfsülze with salad & Rosemary potatoes. All delicious, accompanied by local alcohol-free beer. The waitress made a mistake with our drinks order, but this was quickly solved with a smile & a "sorry." I would be happy to eat again here.

Great food and great atmosphere. The restaurant is style in a very modern wooden and warm light setting. The service was excellent especially when I found out it was a cocktail special, two for the price of one, and the salmon pasta was very good and well priced. Good place to meet people of have a meal. I believe it gets very busy late at night. A definite must stop for any foodie.

I was in this restaurant with a friend of mine for a special Bavarian dinner: the place was exactly like we expected! Very good beer, very good stick and very nice location. The price was also good! Suggested!

After being awake for the better part of 29 hours, my wife and I chose this restaurant for the opening night dinner of our Central Germany vacation. Boy, were we not disappointed. Lovely vaulted ceilings, whimsical "clutter" give this place a wonderfully warm charm. My wife ordered the pork schnitzel, I ordered the Jagerschnitzel. Both were accompanied by a lovely "salad" of carrots, lettuce, tomato, cucumber and assorted cabbages, plus a perfect sized portion of French fries. The pork in both the dishes was tender and perfectly breaded, but the real winner was the incredible mushroom sauce covering my dish. Wow was it good. We tasted the house Riesling and a local Franconian white wine which were perfect with our entrees. Service was friendly and efficient. Dinner was 29.60â¬.

...even if you have to travel a bit (some 15km outside of Coburg) it is worthwhile to go there. We find this an ideal place to sit, eat and chat in a very nice atmosphere. Clear recommendation.

Situated across from the Landestheater, just off of the main pedestrian zone, sits Kunstlerklause. We began the night with a beer outside, listening to opera singers practicing/warming up in the building across the road. As it was nippy, we moved inside to find a very cozy restaurant where we had our dinner. The meal we ordered was typical schnitzel (pork), which was served with a small salad and potato salad. We were disappointed with what was delivered to us, as the schnitzel breading was more like a batter (it all came off at one point), and the potato salad had many pickles in it, which we are not huge fans of. While the meal disappointed, the actual building and location was nice which is rounding our review up to an overall average.

I had the Seelachsfilet (Pollock) and it was very good. The service was excellent. The prices were reasonable. They offer fish and meat dishes. When I was there, they offered homemade dumplings. There is outdoor seating when the weather is warm enough, but it's nice inside, as well. There wasn't much traffic on the road when I was there, which was very nice. It's worth stopping by just to see the building!

We came upon this place during a 2 week holiday in Franconia. It serves typical Franconian food with good regard to the season. Pfifferlingen (Chanterelle Mushrooms) were much in evidence and much to be enjoyed.I had meatloaf, my wife had Pork medallions and we were both very happy with our choices. Really good flavours, great service and a really relaxed atmosphere. Just off Marktplatz on the road that leads to the castle. Super location.
