Restaurants in Mespelbrunn
The restaurant of the Landhotel Klingerhof two miles away, our base, was closed and the receptionist recommended the Old Church in nearby Haibach, a pretty village in the valley below. It was almost full, and that at 7pm on a Sunday evening - a good sign! The place looked quite authentic, an impression re-inforced by the realisation that many locals were eating there. A friendly young waitress brought us a quite extensive menu in German only and we opted for a carafe of what we were told was a dry white housewine at a moderate price whilst we perused it. Neither of us found the wine dry and it was exchanged for another one without fuss, this time dry. I opted for the onion soup. My wife wanted a small tuna salad as a starter and sensibly suggested we should order our main course later, having seen the size of portions on other tables. My steaming soup arrived first, served in a big bowl; just as well it was so hot that I had to wait because it took some time for her salad to arrive. A starter salad? It was enormous, very fresh and delicious!Outgoing diners had to pass our table and we noticed that nearly all had a âdoggy bagâ â it seemed to be taken for granted that most would be defeated by the amount of food and cardboard boxes to take uneaten food home were provided as if it was a matter of course. Our first course would have been enough but I felt a bit guilty, ordered some more wine, then agreed with my wife that we would order a Wiener Schnitzel (her choice) to be shared between us. A large plate with two schnitzels, French fries and salad arrived. We just could not do the contents justice (the food tasted fine!) and managed to eat just about a quarter between us. I had to explain to the waitress that there was nothing wrong with the food â on the contrary â and she immediately asked if we wanted a box to take the rest with us, an offer we declined. For two sizable first courses, basket of bread, a gigantic main course and ¾ litres of a very acceptable house wine the bill came to 34 Euros!...This was quantity paired with quality at a give-away price!

Stopped off in Aschaffenburg for an overnight stay and wanted a evening meal! Not knowing where to eat we consulted trip-advisor and saw this recommendation. We certainly were not disappointed! The staff were friendly and spoke English. The food was excellent , there was a very good atmosphere and they had a good selection of wines. Well worth a visit!

Staying in the adjacent hotel for 1 night while travelling across Europe in August. Convenient distance in 1 day from Dunkerque. As hotel is somewhat rural and out of town, decided to try the restaurant as little else available without driving somewhere else. Decorated in a Bavarian wooden style, restaurant decor was nice enough. Upon arrival we were not greeted pleasantly, but were shown to a table. Staff speak no English (nor should anyone expect them to I hasten to add). Menus only available in German. Very limited selection of starters - basically choice of three, garlic prawns, grilled vegetables or melon. We chose not to partake.Mains - meat, meat and more meat. No vegetarian options I could see, 1 chicken dish, 1 turkey dish and 2 fish dishes. The remainder of the menu was beef and pork. We chose lemon chicken - chicken pieces on a bed of peppers and aubergines, with lemon sauce. This dish was liked by my son. My wife ordered a rump steak, which was huge. She had asked for it cooked medium, but in the centre it was still "blue". She was still full with what she ate however, due to the portion ize, the pieces she left were perfect for me. I chose pork medallions on a bed of rosti potato. The medallions were actually pork fillet pieces, served with tomato slices and mozarella on top. The cheese was overpowering, as was the thick jus sauce which was too cloying. The wine selection was somewhat strange, only glasses are listed on the menu no bottles. When asking for a bottle, the waitress seemed surprised, but then pointed to the glasses listed on the menu. Not sure whether she meant we could only have wine by the glass or whether we could have a bottle of those listed, my wife and I both selected a Franken Rosé. When the waitress returned she had a Litre bottle which she then gave us. Somewhat anxious about the price we would be charged when no bottle prices were listed, we awaited the bill but were pleasantly surprised that the bottle was cheaper than we have regularly paid in British restaurants. Not a great restaurant, but acceptable

On our travels from the UK to Romania we wanted to stay over somewhere with a bit more charm and character than a big city hotel. Hotel was lovely and comfortable with great views. Great selection for breakfast really enjoyed our relaxing stay after a walk to the castle.

Traveling on the Frankfurt-Wurzburg autobahn, I had a vague memory of a restaurant we had visited some years ago. We exited at Mespelbrunn and found the Schlosshotel near the Mespelbrunn castle. It was almost 2 PM and the kitchen was about to close, but they welcomed us into the near empty dining room. It was a lovely room with a rustic, hunting theme with antlers on the walls, various weapons on display. But, white table cloths, candles on tables. Excellent, friendly service. Menu was a little limited, but the dishes we chose (pictured below) were delicious and nicely plated. Anytime we are in this area we would definitely return.

Muller's was actually our second choice for dinner the night we ate there. Our first choice was closed and happily we ended up at Muller's.Muller's is a small restaurant in the Spessart Forest, not far from Aschaffenburg. The setting is lovely and the interior décor is understated and elegant but not in the least bit intimidating. We received a warm welcome from the personable hostess and were seated at the last available table. The menu held another wonderful surprise... the prices, most entrees were in the 14-15 Euro range. I believe everything our party ordered was less than 16 E.The four of each had a different dish. Sauerbraten, Venison, Wiener Schnitzel w/Lemon and Schnitzel with Fresh Forest Mushrooms. The last was my order and it was superb. The schnitzel was meltingly tender and the Mushrooms were sublime...meaty and flavourful, tasting like they had been picked no more than a few hours before. All entrees were accompanied by a potato dish and salad.. Dessert was berries and cream, simple but delicious and again the berries tasted like they were freshly picked. Wine and beer were the beverages of choice and we finished with very good espresso. The service during the entire meal was efficient and unobtrusive and very professional.Muller's is a small , intimate restaurant and we were fortunate to get the last table since we had not booked. I would advise booking ahead especially on weekends. You will need a car to get there, but if you have one Muller's is well worth the trip. There is also a small hotel which I imagine is as well run as the restaurant.
