Things to do in Oberstaufen
Small bar with some food. Live music, but small dance floor. Gets crowded after 9 PM or so. This is a singles haven, but there were other couples besides myself and my dance star lovely bride. We hit the place four nights out of the seven we were in Oberstaufen, and would go back for sure.

What a great bar and restaurant. OK it's not fine dining but husband had one of the ugliest but tastiest meals ..in his words. Potatoes baked with black pudding and sauerkraut. Atmosphere was great, being a bank holiday everybody was in..shall we say high spirits. Wine was mediocre and over 4⬠for a bottle of water is a bit steep. But a nice time.

We looked forward to having dinner at this restaurant especially since it showed 4 stars and looked so nice. When we came in it looked empty and finally someone came to seat us. Although we wanted to sit in the modern part of the restaurant, we were told that it was reserved. Both my husband and I ordered the daily menu which consisted of a chicken vegetable soup, beef goulash and Bavarian cream with fruit. The soup and the goulash with pasta were ok. We looked forward to the dessert and when it came, it was sherbet with apple pieces around it. I asked the waiter about the Bavarian cream and was told, that they were out of it. This was a real disappointment and I did express this to the waiter. He did ask me if we wanted a coffee to make up for it and we said no thank you. Our bill came to over 40 euros and we wanted to put it on our visa. The waiter said he is sorry but they only took a European card. After wanting a better explanation, he said that they would take the Visa card but there would be a surcharge. We were stunned. This is supposedly a 4 star hotel/restaurant and they have a surcharge on a Visa card? Needless to say, we would NEVER go to this restaurant again.Dear âLydNHâ,thank you for the feedback on your restaurant visit.Too bad that our restaurant could not convince you. We are very sorry. We have different restaurants, all of which are designed in the modern Allgäuer style. Depending on occupancy, many tables in these restaurants are reserved for our hotel guests. Of course, we try to fulfill the wishes of all guests, but unfortunately this is not always possible when certain tables are already reserved. We ask for your understanding.A "Bavarian Cream" (Bayerisch Crème or Crème bavaroise) is not completely comparable to a cream. This is a dessert of milk, cream, egg yolk, sugar and various fruits or vanilla or similar. We would gladly have explained this to you on the spot and possibly found another solution. For the payment we accept cash, EC cash, VISA or MasterCard. We ask for your understanding that we charge a surcharge of 10% for a payment of less than ⬠60.00 with a credit card. This information is shown on our daily menu card.Too bad that not everything was to your satisfaction.Ihre Familie Schädler & Teamstellv. Daniela Huà (Empfang & Reservierung)

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel--a family of 6, including three grandchildren--so schnitzel/chips were high on their list. The service was excellent;the menu however all in German( just as well we had a local friend with us). Main courses were delicious. No problems with parking ( it's adjacent to a large ski lift car park), but only payment in cash--no credit card. like many places in Bavaria.

A very nice place to meet the locals, this typical Gasthaus offers great food at decent prices. Go there on Saturday for Frühschoppen or an early lunch and you'll be lucky to find a seat in the cosy bar. Fine weather provided, there are some rather inviting tables outside. Service is friendly and fast.

Very nice restaurant with good home cooked food the dolmadas were excellent in the lemon sauce. Not sure the taramasalata was home made it was a bit bland and served with French bread not pitta. Tasty gyrus (donna) with salad and taziki. All wines were greek and I don't understand how greek wine is so bad...they've had a few years practice but I have never drunk any decent greek wine even in Greece. Had to add fizzy water to our rose to make it palatable. But nice waiters nice terrace and nice food.

After a long day hiking, this place was just the ticket. A warning though, its very popular, we stopped by at 7 on a Sunday night and it was full, we arranged to return at 8 and it was worth the wait. Food was extremely tasty, pizza bread starter was superb as was my wifes grilled Calmari. Why only 4 stars, well for a couple it wasn't overly special inside, no background music (not always a bad thing) and my wife only gave the toilets a 4, and she was being generous (old fashioned, smelt a little, hand dryer not working etc.) But the food was excellent and we'll probably revisit.

We went there without a reservation and just got the last table. We ordered a local wine (OK), Wiener schnitzel (excellent) and pork medallions (excellent). We both also ordered potato salad and fried onions (again both excellent). The presentation was outstanding. The greeting was friendly and we were immediately recognised as British, spoken to in English and given an English menu, although the specials were only in German which our host translated for us.The atmosphere inside is of a traditional Bavarian restaurant (a very busy one!) and remember it only opens at 5pm and is closed on a Monday. We will return for one of the best meals we've had for a while.
