Abbey House Hotel & Gardens has recently undergone a multi million refurbishment. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
This hotel is absolutely beautiful, both inside and out. Driving in, you are greeted by a massive fountain and immediately see the massive building. The interior of the hotel is split into 2 sections: the old Abbey building and an added-on contemporary section. The rooms in the old building have character, while the contemporary rooms are standard hotel rooms. One downside is that the walls are thin, so if there is a party going on in the building you can hear it. Breakfast at the hotel is absolutely lovely!

Our Barrow-in-Furness hotel features our stylish new generation bedrooms, with an impressive 40" flat screen TV, freshly updated bathroom with large shower head, and brand new, slumber-inducing, king-size Hypnos bed. We had planned this visit in advance as my son was doing a zookeeper experience and we needed somewhere to stay. On arrival we found the hotel nice and welcoming. The staff were friendly and we managed to check in earlier than planned. I had booked 2 twin rooms. When we walked into one of them there was a bit of a smell but I just thought it would go. Later that evening my son said it was the carpet that smelt so I bought some carpet freshener and sprayed it myself. Which did made it smell better. We then went to bed. During the night I woke several times and could still smell it. Didn't sleep well at all, bed was uncomfortable too. So much for a guaranteed good night's sleep. When the morning came the smell was worse and still there. So thought we best investigate. We pulled the bed out and my, do I wish we hadn't. There was a trail of faeces on the wall along the side of the bed. I immediately went downstairs to complain. I was told they would have to investigate and deep clean the room. They managed to give us a different room layer that day (after we moved all our stuff to our 2nd booked room) and refunded us my meal price. I am shocked that this was left undiscovered as how did the cleaner change the bed without realising or seeing it. I'm totally baffled and still makes me feel sick to know I lay in the bed right next to it.

Stayed here on our 2nd leg of the tour de lakes and it was horrible. Cracks in the sinks, marks on the carpets and an unpleasant smell in the corridors made for a pretty rubbish stay. The only beacon of hope here is the staff cleaning rooms, one of them is a familiar face in Jo as we’d met her at another travelodge. Really lovely and helpful as was Tina on reception. Unfortunately, next time we visit barrow it will be Holiday inn or Premier inn for us.

Barrow's famous town centre hotel. Bought by Lancaster Brewery in 2006, the Duke has been completely reinvented and is now a luxury, town centre hotel with fifty one en-suite rooms/suites, a stylish cask ale bar, resident's dining lounge and stunning cocktail/restaurant cellar bar. The hotel bedrooms include flat screen televisions, Egyptian cotton linen/towels, free wi-fi, over-sized beds, room service and contemporary bathrooms. As important as our hotel accommodation is our drink and food offering. We employ some of the very best chefs in the area to produce quality, well presented and thoroughly enjoyable meals. Our bar has over 50 whiskys, ten cask beers, lagers, wines, craft beers and cocktails alongside coffee/tea from Farrers of Kendal. Located in the heart of Barrow, yards from the train station, a couple of minutes walk to the town centre, easily accessible for the Lake District and 10 mins from South Lakes Safari Zoo. We offer free parking for all our residents.
Great hotel located in Barrow! I have stayed here many times over the last couple of years, and each experience has been wonderful. The rooms are unique and spacious, with comfortable beds, lovely showers and baths, and coffee/tea + biscuits in every room. The staff are very friendly; they are accommodating and always happy to assist. The restaurant also has superb food - lots of vegetarian options that are actually good! TOP TIP: book directly instead of Booking.com to have breakfast included!

Myself and my boyfriend were looking for a last minute 1 night stay with breakfast included anywhere in this general area of the Lakes. We ended up choosing The Dunes Hotel and weren’t disappointed in the slightest. We checked in at around 9:30pm and the staff at The Dunes Hotel were more than accommodating when we arrived. Very quick and easy check-in. The room was very clean and tidy, exactly what we were looking for. Breakfast was a buffet style, with both hot and cold food served. Bacon, eggs, sausage, hash browns, black pudding, toast.. the whole lot really. Cold options were melon, cereals and croissants. Tea and coffee was served by staff too. Overall we really can’t fault the hotel, it would be beautiful to host a wedding. If we’re ever in need of an overnight stay in a hotel again then we’ll definitely come back here!

We are an elegant, traditional, independent family run hotel. Built in 1897 we have retained the Victorian character of the hotel, and the hotel is peppered with interesting antiques and curios alongside modern facilities such as free wifi broadband access and i-pod docking stations and DVD players in our Superior Rooms. We are a welcoming hotel with super friendly staff; ideal for families wanting a stay away from the town centre. We are set in private gardens and we beleive in valuing traditional service and the elegance of a bygone era, while offering the best in modern features. We represent an independent alternative to the cloned looks of a chain hotel by offering something unique and personal. Our restaurant is open Monday to Saturday and offers meals from £8.95 - including dishes such as local herdwick lamb and fell bred steak. Parking is on site, private and free of charge.
Came to the Chetwynde for a family wedding after not seeing my family since 2019 due to covid and I had a lovely time!! the wedding was beautifully set up and the staff were all really attentive and the location is beautiful!!! The rooms were very clean and the beds comfy !! You could tell the staff really care about their presentation!! The food was lovely in the morning and in the evening and they were even attentive when I asked about Sticky Toffee Pudding and my order WAS very confusing but they dealt with it professionally and with humour which was lovely! I really felt as if I’d got to know the staff as the stay progressed and the overall place has a lovely atmosphere !!

Hotel, Bar & Restaurant.
I stayed here for two nights in May. The room was sunny, clean and comfortable with a nice en-suite. Nicer than a premier inn. I stayed in room 9 which was a corner room facing the road and overlooking the water. Room 9 and the next door rooms are over the bar, it wasn’t massively noisy but I could hear the music playing until closing time. Breakfast was ok with a small buffet of cereals, yoghurts and juice filled by a good range of cooked items including pancakes and eggs Benedict. I had an evening meal which was fine, the portions are huge.

Family run little guest house since 1991. We are in the prime location of Barrow-in-Furness. Our breakfast menu have different choices including full English breakfast, Omelette, Porridge etc... Free WIFI through out the premise. Opposite to the beautiful Barrow park and next to the train station.
This is a quaint Guest House close to the train station and eateries as well as shopping. The owner, Ian, is very pleasant and accommodating . The rooms are clean with ample room for comfort. The beds are wonderful and cozy. The only draw back is the shared bathroom which services a group of four rooms. Not to my comfort level but many travellers would be ok with that. Very clean. Would recommend.
