In the forest, with great views over the valley. Warm welcoming hosts, great to start walks, great breakfast and dinners, and individually decorated rooms. The host make sure you get to know the other guests over dinner, so you feel at once at home. Excellent location to explore the Vosges and Alsace mountain region.

Au domaine de Py

A warm welcome turned cold...

Reviewed By Glenys V

We were warmly greeted upon our arrival, offered coffee or tea and shown to our room, which was beautiful. The coffee was not to our liking as we like strong Italian-style espresso, but it is hard to get that anywhere in the entire region, so it's nothing unexpected. If you like French or American-style coffee, you'll be fine. The decor in the room is absolutely stunning. There is a nice bed on a higher level in the room and we were glad to remember it when we would get up to use the bathroom at night. The distance to La Bresse-Hohneck is also pretty convenient at only about 15 minutes or so. The bed was comfortable and the room had plenty of storage space and room to move. Both the room and the bathroom were spacious and lovely. While the water-pressure was low and it took a while for the water to get hot, once it did, it was hot enough. The lack of TV enabled us to disconnect a bit, so we didn't mind that at all. The room was well heated and was lovely. When we arrived we were grateful that it hadn't snowed in over a week because the property is at the top of a very steep hill. Even without ice nor snow, we had a tough time getting to the top as the tires got stuck once in the loose gravel. While our initial welcome was warm, that night and the next day was not as welcoming. First, we were suddenly told to leave our shoes in the entryway and we were given old slippers to wear instead. Mine had 2 left feet. The next morning, I went back in to get my husband's helmet, and the woman shushed me as if I were a child. A grown woman paying to stay at an establishment should never be shushed for mere footsteps, especially when they were nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, when we returned from skiing, we went to take a nap before dinner and had to sleep accompanied to the cacophony of shrieks, screams and yells of multiple children running up and down the hall and jumping down the stairs for hours. She did not shush them, though. We had requested a quiet room, but were placed next to a room with loud screaming children. In fact, our room stated that it had a private entrance, but that was not true. There was supposed to be access to an "Executive Lounge", but that is nothing more than the entry room of the property. WiFi did not work in our room, nor throughout the property. It would connect but immediately disconnect each and every time. The property does not take credit cards. There are buskers in London taking credit cards but not this establishment. It's 2019! How are there still people in business who don't take credit cards? There is one ATM in Gerardmer...good luck finding it. If you're only going to accept cash, please get the change right. It was very strange to get a breakfast charge added in, when we hadn't had any breakfast. There's only one table, she would have seen us for sure. Then when it was pointed out, the change given back was still for the wrong total, so we had to point it out yet again. If you don't mind loud children, a woman shushing you, a steep hill, or paying in cash, then the place is lovely and there would be no other reason why you shouldn't stay there.

Fietsvakantie
