Es Castell (Spanish: Villacarlos) is a small municipality in eastern Menorca in the Balearic Islands, Spain. The town was founded in 1771 by British Col. Patrick Mackellar and was originally called Georgetown in honour of King George III; however, it takes its current name from the large fort nearby, known to the British as St. Philip's Castle. Col. Patrick MacKellar (Argyllshire 1717-1778) was the chief engineer of Menorca and his house today is known as Son Granot. Es Castell celebrates its Foundation Day on 1 June with 18th-century themed festivities, in which the Municipality itself, St. Philip's Castle Foundation, Son Granot and other institutions participate.

We ordered squids, sole and a mixture of prawns and snails. Fish and squids seemed fresh, however instead of fresh vegetables, there was a small amount of cooked (frozen) vegetables, which was unfortunately cold in comparison with the rest of the food. The chips were rather cooked than fried. Having a chef cook at the table (a friend), the experience was disappointing. At least, he enjoyed his sole. Squids and snails were ok.

We knew this would be an expensive meal, but it is a different experience from all the others along the harbour front. It is small and intimate inside with linen tablecloths and an air of refinement. The two ladies front of house are charming. We shared some squid and then I had grilled John Dory and my husband had Tuna. Both perfectly cooked and presented with some vegetables and thin fries. We chose a bottle of Albarino to accompany the meal. We decided to 'push the boat out' and had desserts and two glasses of dessert wine followed by coffee. Our final bill came to 129 euros. The restaurant is right beside the harbour lift.

We have visited this restaurant on numerous occasions & are never disappointed. The menu del dial at â¬20 is great value. The setting is wonderful & staff are very attentive. Keep walking past all the restaurants until you come to the last one. Wonderful.

Me and my partner made a reservation here mainly because their menu advertised paella for one person (my partner doesn't eat seafood) and everywhere else seems to have a minimum of 2 people. We were pleasantly surprised by how up-market the restaurant turned out to be in comparison to others in the area. We were served olives with our drinks, then amuse bouche of watermelon gazpacho and brie parcels, which were delicious! My partner had the fillet steak and said it was very flavoursome and great quality, the paella was the same for me. We then went all out and had dessert of carrot cake and coffees.Staff were attentive and friendly, atmosphere was relaxing and the price was fantastic - you would pay considerably more in London!Definitely worth a visit.

Restaurante especializado en arroces y en pescado de Menorca, capturado cada mañana por nuestra propia embarcación. Esta situado en el balcón de Cales Fonts en un ambiente tranquilo y agradable.
SâHam is on the level up from from all the waterside restaurants (up the slope past all the market stalls). This restaurant stands way above any of the waterside establishments. The menu is varied and on similar price level as the other restaurants in the area. The reason it doesnât have a very good rating is that it has only been open for 2 months. If you look at the reviews, they are all 5 out of 5. You canât beat that. The ham croquettes were fantastic and my partner said his mussel starter was one of the best heâd ever had. We both had the shoulder of lamb followed by the Mahon Cheese cake, both were fantastic as well. Limited outdoor seating but well worth booking. Well worth a trip and weâll definitely be back next time we are in Mahon. Definitely our best meal in Mahon. Thank you for such a positive review, we are very happy that you enjoyed your experience in our restaurant and we will be happy to see you again as soon as you return to Menorca, thank you very much.

Came here as most of the other restaurants on the harbour were fully booked. I now know why as the food was so poor.Starters were ok but the mains were a complete rip off. Wife ordered the suckling pig with crackling. When it arrived the dish was a bone with a thin covering of pork and soggy fat. I asked the waiter where the crackling was, he pointed to the soggy fat and said thats what they call crackling but agreed it wasn't actually crackling, wife didn't want to cause a fuss so left it at that, my steak arrived a few minutes later cut almost in half and cremated, i asked for medium/rare. It tasted off. The waiter came over and agreed it was poor and ordered me another one. By the time this came my wife had eaten hers. The steak was cooked better but again sliced almost in half. Obviously the "chef" cannot cook and has to look inside the steak.Felt sorry for the waiter as you could tell he had to deal with this all the time.Guy who looked like owner disappeared and no apology. Worse meal and most expensive allholiday. First apologize for your dissatisfaction. We can not admit your comments about the low qualifications of our kitchen staff and your comments about our being overratedWe are in the place that our customers put us and our average never drops below 4Suckling pig is one of the dishes most valued by our customers (you can see it in many of the opinions)Opinions should help improve and some of your comments are a lack of respect

Seafood & Mediterranean restaurant situated in beautiful Cales Fonts harbour. Open from Easter till mid October.
Quite expensive, but was a lovely meal. Huge choice of fish on the menu. Portions were big. I had stir fried monkfish with onions and it was cooked really nicely, more delicate than I thought it would be. Gets very busy, need to book for dinner.

I think we were served by the owner and she was lovely, very friendly and helpful. Great outlook by the harbour. The food was a bit disappointing to me, it was very average I thought. I can't remember what we had now as it was a few weeks ago, but i'd hoped for better from the reviews. We were maybe spoilt as we had lunch at santa rita in Mahon, which is amazing!

My wife and I had lunch here today and it was amazing. We had ham croquettes which were freshly made and probably the best I have had. We also had peppers stuffed with cod and my wife also had some scallops. Overall a fantastic tasting lunch and first class hosts. A must visit.Thank you very much
