The owners of very friendly at this place and happy to serve you with their plates. I had the grilled duck with side salad and deliciously prepared vegetables. The price was €22 which included a bottle of wine. I would recommend this place based mostly on the friendliness of the staff.

We were the only company for the whole evening. The foos was real good. Cocotte ouef and foie gras and Magret de canard. Typical south west. I enjoed it pretty much.
The location is a bit away from town but on the way out you can hear the wild animals.. lovely experience

Visitin gon Christmas Eve, we enjoyed the Menu Degustation de Noel - from the first sip of champagne, accompanied by petits toasts with truffle butter and an amuse bouche of poached celeriac through 7 courses of exquisitely prepared and presented delicacies, each accompanied by a different and carefully chosen wine, to the final assiette gourmande and the last chocolat maison it was a gourmet experience par excellence. One of my favourite dishes was the 'oeuf en coddler' - served in antique coddlers sourced by Ann Marie from the UK! But it is not only the stunning cuisine that makes it an unforgettable experience. The welcome, the feeling of really being guests in the home of Ann Marie and Bernard Boby (including meeting their cat, who clearly enjoys plenty of gourmet cuisine himself!), the care and attention to detail that goes in to the table setting, the explanation of each dish and the wine chosen to accompany it, and the clear delight that both take in entertaining guests in their home, all combine to make it a very special occasion. Can't recommend highly enough - be sure to book!

I took the menu that includes drink and pizza, and the pizza was really delicious, fresh and innovative flavour. Waiters were gentle and the house wine pretty fine. In general, plates and Deserts were quite generous portions. Highly recommended to family, friends and couples.

This restaurant was recommended by our B&B host and the experience was very good. It is a fairly simple menu of rustic French dishes, with the trout being the clear stand-out. Desserts weren't great but the rest was delicious.
Good value, friendly service, overall a good experience.

Really nicely presented food that is also extremely tasty. The service was friendly and the bill was extremely reasonable for the quality. It's a short menu of regional ingredients, but all the choices were tempting. It's a great contrast to the other places in town that are fine, but tend toward the typical bistro store food. This is a proper restaurant, much more of a treat, I thought under €90 for three courses, pre dinner beer and a bottle of wine was worth every cent. Definitely make the effort and walk five minutes off the main drag.

A truly fabulous dining experience. I understand that new owners have recently taken over this restaurant and it shows. We had wonderful attentive and understanding service given we don't speak French and given my partner can't eat gluten, this place was a dream!! So many of their dishes were gluten free and very tasty indeed! The service was delightful and I wish we had a few more days to come back here again.

We were staying at the hotel and had dinner here.
They have a Terrace at the back where you can eat under cover or outside in summer.
Good selection available.
We had the "Local Menu" at 20.50 Euros each for 3 courses and we were also given a complimentary soup course.
Everything was very nicely cooked and tasty and we liked the half litre carafes of wine for only 7 euros each.

For meals on the spot, no reservation by phone.
We chose Thao based on positive reviews, especially the fact the restaurant was small with 'home cooking'
Initial surprise was the very limited menu, only a handful of main courses and very few starters. We ordered from the prix fixe at 15 euros. Starter comprised 1 spring roll, 1 shrimp in batter and one other fried 'something' The batter tasted very old, the shrimp tired although the spring roll did have some zip.
My main course supposedly caramel pork. It was served in a small dish, dried up pork swimming in a nondescript runny sauce plus some boiled rice. No other flavourings or accompaniments...and the pork was barely luke warm. My wife had prawns, so hard she left more than half, most unusual For dessert a panna cotta, such a small portion it was finished in 2 or 3 mouthfulls.
In terms of value for money, very poor especially compared with lunch that day at Le Mailh d'Astau. A 14 Euro meal served a large Salad Nicoise. Lovely mountain lamb and a generous creme brulee
In 6 years of writing the occasional reviews I have rarely given 1 star. Equally I do not like to be critical of a small family run restaurant. I am sorry to say that this dinner was a disastrous experience
