Great pizzas baked in a wood oven ! Italian secret ! Difficult to find better !...
After a few weeks travelling in Asia it was a very welcome change. Being curious about a real Pizza in Myanmar we were trying The Pizza 2 Restaurant in Bagan. What a surprise - the pizza was just excellent! Thin pasta base and nice toppings. We felt like beeing in Italy. Bill & Karin, Switzerland

The Aye Yeik Thar Yar Restaurant is beside the hotel I stayed at, the Aung Mingalar Hotel, along the main road in Nyaung U, a stones throw from the Shwezigon Pagoda. The night I visited the bright lights illuminated the front and cast a shadow over the paper lanterns hanging there. Varied menu with Thai, Burmese and Italian selections all prominent. I chose a simple chicken curry that came with a steaming bowl of rice and served by attentive waiters very soon after I ordered. The curry was average - it could have done with a little more flavour and definitely more heat. I enjoyed a Mandalay beer. The decor of the restaurant is a mish-mash, but what stood out were the numerous caricatures of people all done in charcoal. I later found out the husband was the artist and the wife, the manager/translator of the restaurant.

The male staff is the great plus in this place, friendly attentive and chatting with the customers. The Italian style food is average, In most cases, only the name can be inferred from the Italian character of the food.

We ordered some pumpkin ravioli and a mushroom pizza. The pizza was like a big soft wet cracker with no flavour at all, and a very small portion, with hardly any cheese, sauce or mushrooms. My ravioli was very sloppy and so flavourless that I had to empty half the salt shaker onto it. We also had a caprese salad which is literally just chopped tomatoes and imitation mozzarella and some basil.. not that amazing. Definitely don't go here for the western food!

Bagan is a popular destination with people visiting Myanmar (once called Burma). We dined at this restaurant, it's casual dress with a good range of food. Myanmar gets some bad press from time to time, but the locals are friendly. Thanks you very much for your 5 stars review.

Honestly this is the best service I have had anywhere in the world! Very proffesional and attentive waitress, spoke English and Japanese (we had a mixed group of people) and was so concerned with our experience. The food was very nice and well worth the âextraâ money. Totally recommend this place.
