The amuse bouche was unexpected, and great, a carrot chilli cream soupshot. Followed by a seasonal asparagus soup, then spare ribs, done just right. I hadn't had spareribs like that since Dan Marino's at Hooters in Vegas. For dessert I highly recommend the rhubarb and pannacotta with fresh strawberries. Hmmmmm tasty.Oh and there was also a salad the size of a small child... no American side salads here, just a good old fresh salad with a tart vinaigrette. Wonderful. So we had dinner there twice...

We were lucky enough to get there around 6pm - they start serving big groups that stay at the pension/restaurant around 6:30pm. So we got our order in before they got busy. My husband had the "potato pillow" with vegetables (Maultaschen mit Kartoffeln und Brie) and I had Pfifferlinge in Rahmsosse (mushrooms) mit Knödel. The food was good, we could eat from their salad bar before the main course arrived. The salad bar is awesome! We might just come back for that. Lots of different raw salad options, red beets, kraut, merretich, grüner salad, gurken usw. Then we had the black Forrest ice cream and espresso for desert. A perfect finish to a long day hiking. Definitely recommend, prices are a bit high but the atmosphere and service were great and we took our time with the food and enjoyed - something Germans know how to do - and not rush through dinner. Several vegetarian options on the main menu which was nice.

We had two breakfasts and one dinner here as part of a 2-day stay and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Fresh, filling, and tasty food, with a selection of beer, wine, and interesting home-made brandies. Breakfast was cold meats, cheeses, cereal, breads, jams, and fresh fruit, with the option to have fresh-cooked eggs. A healthy, hearty start to a day of touring.

The restaurant is located in the village of Buchholz, a part of the town of Waldkirch. It is in many ways typical of restaurants in this part of Germany - clean and efficient, with a comfortable dining room. The food, however, is considerably better than average for this kind of restaurant. I had a rather simple dish - pork schnitzel with spaetzle and vegetables. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and the spaetzle were of very high quality, as was the schnitzel. I also tasted the steak with pepper sauce, which had a delicious sauce with a strong hint of mustard. The dessert was a white chocolate mousse with blood orange sorbet and macerated kumquats. It was excellent and certainly more creative than one would expect in a family restaurant of this type. The waitress was extremely attentive without in any way becoming obtrusive or irritating. She was one of the most professional waitresses I have seen in German restaurants.Overall, I recommend a dinner at this very pleasant restaurant.
