In 1715, margrave Karl III Wilhelm decided he needed more space than he had in Durlach, so he moved his capital to Karlsruhe and had it designed in circular spokes around his new palace. Because of its unique radial shape, Karlsruhe is sometimes called the “fan city.” Home to Germany’s most important federal courts, the city accordingly teems with civil servants. Karlsruhe Schloss (castle) was badly damaged in World War II, but was rebuilt and is now home to the Badisches Landesmuseum.

Ever wanted to sit in an old train carriage and munch delicious well-named burger concoctions with potato wedges or chips/fries while sipping Dr Peppers, A&W, Millers, Orangina or lemon ice tea? And then follow it all up with a milk shake or Ben&Jerrys ice cream? And if you prefer your friendly and patient waitresses and waiters to be wearing hints of 50s clothing to match the whole interior design then this is the place to go.Pulled out of the place in the evenings it is advisable to book a table. Weather permitting the outdoor deck is open and seats quite a few people under a wonderfully low tree.Kids are welcome and are served with due care and attention. The upstairs provides a larger room for further seating or larger groups/parties etc. There isnât a burger we canât recommend. The menu is self-explaining and all food is prepared carefully and well plated. For example the tasty coleslaw comes in itâs own little dish just in case youâd rather not have it interfere with the rest of the food. Vegetarians have a choice of food, too. Over the past years this restaurant has risen back up to high standards and seems to be maintaining them steadily. So it is now a highly recommendable place for dining out.

I went to this small restaurant for lunch. There is a fixed menu with no choice. You can have 3 courses for â¬40 or 4 courses for â¬50. I had the 4 course menu with tuna tartare, shrimp risotto, cod and French toast with plums. The food was delicious. There were two girls serving and they were friendly. One of them kept my wine glass full but before the dessert the other girl was just standing around whereas in a Michelin star restaurant you would expect someone to come and wipe the crumbs off the table. There was a limited wine list which was a bit expensive with the cheapest bottle costing â¬32.The bathroom was nice but the panels between the stalls were very high so didn't afford much privacy. The chef came out to chat to everyone which was nice.In the evening there is a big menu with 5 courses for â¬80, 6 courses for â¬90 and 7 courses for â¬100. There is a small menu with 4 courses for â¬70 and 5 courses for â¬80.

I'm not really a friend of hot dogs because in germany I have never eaten good ones. But this place is really alright. The bread roll is fresh and crispy and the sausage tasty and the toppings are nice.So in my eyes it's worth a try.
