We were invited by my brother-in-law for his 60th birthday, and not having heard very much about this place we were absolutely gob-smacked the moment we walked in the door. Very attractively renovated, lots of room, and packed with diners. That said something right away. The meal proved it - exceptional! Mind, I do not know what the prices are like, but I'm told that they are affordable considering the high quality of service and the locale. The meal was expertly served, cleverly presented and very tasty. We began with a lovely salad - greens and quark, then a herbed cream soup, braided salmon, and for the main course lamb that melted in one's mouth. The local wine (Spätburgunder) pairs beautifully. The entire experience was just perfect. I highly recommend the Mühlenhof and suggest you call ahead to reserve, especially on the weekend. Looking at their website, I see it's made the 2013 Michelin guide, if that matters to you.

I believe I am fair in my reviews, but I acknowledge my tastes and opinions are different from others. So, having said that, I am giving zum Zarko the highest marks I can. I have had a few terrific meals in different places and for my money Zarko's is their equal. It is a fairly unremarkable restaurant from the outside - on a street in "downtown" Lahr - but in all other aspects it is top notch - quality of the meal, drinks, service and prices. There is a Balkan flair to the menu but one can choose other typical German meals - we had the schnitzel/pommes/salad (Scniposa) and pfferlingen mit pffanenkuchen. Sometimes you just have to have a schnitzel! If there was any drawback it was that the schnitzel was a giant plate-covering thing, with a ton of fries. Is that bad? No, since I had half wrapped to take away. The pfferlingen/pffanenkuchen was similarly fine (although almost too much). We sat on the rather nice umbrella-shaded terrace and it was non-stop people coming and gong, so the place is popular. The service was efficient, prompt and exact. Here's the best part - our meals, a beer and a wine schorle came to the princely sum of Euro 28! That, my friends, you cannot beat.

We have been to the Gasthaus zur Eiche several times over the past few years (I have a sister-in-law living in Lahr) and, as the title says, we've never been disappointed. It is perhaps best experienced in the summer on their lovely terrace that overlooks Lahr and area. We were there recently for a New Year's Eve meal. Other than it being perhaps a bit too over-lit for a late evening meal, it was a super dinner. The food, the service, the ambiance were all excellent. The place was packed as one had to reserve several days in advance of course, but there was no degradation whatsoever in quality or service. You have to drive a bit farther out of Lahr to reach the Langenhard (10 minutes) but it's well worth the short trip. We will go back to the Eiche and I suspect we will not be disappointed then either.

First, there are two parts to the facility (three, actually): the restaurant, the Gasthaus (adjoining) and the hotel itself (also adjoining). The restaurant is Michelin-rated (one-star, I believe), and since the Gasthaus utilizes the same kitchen at least in my mind it is ipsofacto also Michelin one-star rated. In fact, it doesn't really matter since you get a fabulous meal in lovely surroundings so who cares how many stars? So, we were four: sister-in-law and husband, my wife and I. A Friday evening and it was busy but not full. Neither was the restaurant. However, I recommend reservations in either, if you can manage that. Nice ambiance, a small courtyard off the Gasthaus as well for fair weather times. The service was noticeably smart, with young ladies appropriately attired in casual black dress. They are training or have trained for service in high-end establishments. No problem to speak English, they understand and speak it well. The food was, not surprisingly, excellent. The menu isn't extensive but there is a nice selection of one, two or three course meals, with prices ranging from just under Euro 20 to around Euro 30. These are very good prices. Also a la carte. The wine list has many fine choices, mostly regional, but is not extensive. The ingredients, too, are largely from the region. We had: Reh (roe deer), Schwarzwald trout and, for me, a real Wiener Schnitzel, made from veal (Euro 21, with fries and a salad). And it was, to quote Basil Fawlty "Veally, veally, good!" Creme Brule for dessert (the best you'll ever have!). The only small glitch was that we waited quite a while for the main course to arrive - nearly an hour after we had sat. This was acknowledged (but not explained) and earned us an on-the-house espresso at meal's end. Well worth a trip down the Schuttertal to Reichenbach!

This is a basic, family owned hotel with a Greek restaurant attached. We got the one room with the washroom in it. Others have their own private toilet and shower in a room next door or across the hall. It was clean and quiet and the wifi was good. It is too far to walk to the town centre or other restaurants but easy to get to if you are driving, with free parking. Definitely value for money and we enjoyed our meal in the restaurant (although closed on Mondays). Check in at the restaurant or ring the doorbell at the back, if it's not yet open. Staff were friendly.

In the past, I have already eaten in this very good restaurant and this time I was once again very satisfied.I ate a very good "red beet carpaccio with caramelized goat cheese" as starter, followed by a very good "veal steak with Asparagus and risotto". The cooking of the veal (requested as medium) was perfect. The service was good and very friendly (only issue : in German only), the choice of local wines is interesting. We paid around 100 ⬠for 3 drinks, 3 starters, 3 main dishes and half a litter of local red wine.I strongly recommend this place.
