Very nice German food, traditional regional dishes available. Nice friendly staff, beautiful location and view on an old closter for nuns. However, prices higher than expected and much higher than in the city of Karlsruhe (40⬠for two, one beer, one white wine/ glass and two main dishes whereas in the city, paid 20⬠max for a similar meal).

A bit outside of Herrenalb, you will find this pretty restaurant. The ambience is very nice and you should really try the Hot Plate (heisser Stein). Probably the best restaurant in the region.

So gefällt uns das - frische Zutaten, solide bürgerliche Küche ohne Brimborium. Die Pasta aus hausgemachten Nudeln mit frischem Saisongemüse hatte Biss und war einwandfrei zubereitet. Der Rostbraten war ein 300-Gramm-Entrecote in allerbester Fleischqualität, perfekt auf den Punkt gegart. Dazu gab es handgeschabte Dinkelspätzle - wunderbar! Punkteabzug allerdings für die Sauce zum Rostbraten, eher eine Tunke mit zuviel Saucenbinder, geschmacklich wie eine Fertigsauce aus dem Supermarktregal. In dem Punkt ist noch Luft nach oben, ansonsten waren wir rundum zufrieden mit der Leistung von Küche und Service. Gerne wieder!

Besuch am Sonntag, 15.01.16 ab 13 Uhr.Der Bären befindet sich im 500 m hoch gelegen Höhendorf Bernbach in der Ortsmitte, gleich neben der Kirche. Parkmöglichkeiten gibt es direkt am Haus. Wir kamen mit dem ÃPNV: KVV Linie S1, Haltestelle Kullenmühle, 5 Minuten mit Bus 113 bis Bernbach Rathaus.Der gepflegt Gastraum mit offenen Holzbalken, weiÃen Wänden sowie einem schönen weiÃen Kachelofen bietet eine gemütliche Atmosphäre. Hier dreht sich alles um den Bären, den man überall im Gastraum antrifft, auch auf der sauberen und gepflegten Toilette. Sogar die Wirte heiÃen Bär, nämlich Peter und Silvia. Das Gebäude steht unter Denkmalschutz. Für Feiern gibt es einen rustikalen Gewölbekeller, den Bärenkeller mit Platz für ca. 30 Gäste. Unglaublich: Das Restaurant ist an 365 Tagen im Jahr geöffnet. Ruhetag gibt es keinen. Bei unserem Besuch befanden sich die Wirtsleute gerade im Urlaub. Eine junge Mannschaft hat sie würdig in Küche und Service vertreten. Die Speisekarte bietet italienische und deutsche Gerichte: Pizzen, Salate, Pasta, Flammkuchen, Fleischgerichte vom Rind, Schwein und Pute. Hier kocht der Wirt (normalerweise, wenn er nicht im Urlaub ist) persönlich, und das gut. Er pflegt auch regen Kontakt zu den Gästen und besucht sie am Tisch, auch schon mal zu einem Schwätzchen.Die Pizzen mit hausgemachtem Boden schmecken sehr lecker. Die Pastagerichte sind ebenfalls zu empfehlen.Das Preis- Leistungsverhältnis passt.Fazit: Es war ein sehr gelungener Mittag, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und kommen gerne wieder.

I enjoyed two dinners here, one while an overnight guest. The swineschnitzel (pork cutlet) was a very generous portion but not especially creative. The lemon ravioli with spinach filling and butter sauce was one of my favorite meals in Germany. A composed fresh fruit dessert was practically a work of art on the plate. I'm still trying to figure out what was in the tiny ceramic bowl they give you with the bread. Maybe bacon fat with rock salt? Odd. Service was quite attentive but a bit slower than I like. I found that at many restaurants in the region, though. Perhaps I should relax more over my meals! Breakfast was also bountiful but didn't have any hot dishes that I could find, although it was late in the time window and maybe they weren't cooking any more. My room was a very good price, but the manager apologized for the dated decor. That didn't bother me, but the WiFi was a little slow.

Zur Alten Post is a newish restaurant in the old post office in Bad Herrenalb. It has a good thriving local customer base, but we were made most welcome as tourists. Food is the usual German style - plenty of pork and noodles, but it is all well cooked, promptly served and reasonably priced. I had a classic Weiner schnitzel, whilst my wife opted for the Jagerschnitzel, with mushroom sauce. The beer was good as ever. Not haute cusine perhaps, but good honest local food.

Wonderful food, lovely terrasse, freindly service. It is good that I don't live in Bad Herrenalb otherwise I'd have to eat there once a week! Käsespâtzle to die for... YUM! Il faut y gouter pour y croire.Vielen Dank Andi, und wir kommen wieder auf jeden fall.

Ein schattiges Plätzchen mit Blick, freundlicher schneller Service und bestes Essen. Der Ochsenfetzenteller mit Pfefferrahmsauce und Spätzle ein Gedicht. Das Fleisch auÃen leicht knusprig, innen zart. Die Sauce mit viel grünem Pfeffer genau richtig in der Schärfe. Die Spätzle sehr lecker. Und der Salat frisch. Wirklich toll.

Having finished a conference in Karlsruhe we cam here for a relaxed visit. We found a delightful town with the monastic precinct and in the middle, near the church this wonderful restaurant. Sitting outside in the summer heat, under umbrellas with a view over the precinct we started with beer and them a wonderful meal! The local speciality was special and the desert with strawberry sorbet once of the best sorbet we had tasted. An early birthday meal for my wife! Relaxed, friendly and with superb service and food - we will be back!!!!
